Can a cowl neck work for an inverted triangle?

I am an inverted triangle with apple tendencies. I *think* I found a great dress for Hubby's company Christmas party. I love the way the ruching hides my belly flaws. But I am not sure the cowl neckline is great for my broader shoulders. Thanks for any insight you can give me!

This really looks like a V neckline from a distance, so take that into consideration. I liked the sweater dress you posted, but this one is nice, too. I don't think it makes your shoulders look crazy-broad or anything.

I have wondered the same thing for myself. I agree with Claire that this looks more like a v neckline. Maybe because it is not that bulky sweatery BIG cowl neck. I think it looks great!

The dress looks pretty good but if you are looking for a problem with it, I think the cap sleeves are more of an issue than the neck since it is just a good V shape.

Yeah, I kind of hate the sleeves. I have some arm fat at the top of my arm, and it definitely draws attention to it. I figure most of the evening I'll be wearing a pashmina or something like that anyway if I get chilly, so hopefully that'll hide the ol' batwings.

I'm not seeing a bunch of arm fat. But as a fellow IT, I avoid cap sleeves like the plague. They seem to put wide extenders on my shoulders. With a topper, that dress should be just fine. It is a pretty dress.

I'm with Brenda, IF you want to minimize shoulders/arms, cap sleeves will do the opposite (not that I see these fabled "batwings" of which you speak). But your pashmina is a good solution.

Is there a reason you don't like the sleeved sweater dress for this occasion? I actually liked that one a lot, probably more than this one.

I think the dress is flattering on you. I don't see any arm or belly issues.

It is such a super-easy fix to get rid of the cap sleeves. If you can't sew at all, you undoubtedly have friend or tailor that could do it within 15-20 minutes.

I have similar arms and shoulders, and sleeveless is 20x better than that type of cap sleeve.

Otherwise, I love the dress, and it honestly doesn't look bad even with the caps.

I avoid cowlnecks, although I know they are doable as an IT. I think this one is quite flattering on you in terms of the neckline, but I'm not loving the cap sleeves. A wrap or cropped cardi would help that, but may defeat the purpose of the dress.

I'm a fellow IT as well and I like cowlnecks. The first thing I noticed was the sleeve length and how it broadens the shoulder line. (If you sit back and use your thumbs to make the dress seem more sleeveless than cap sleeve, you will notice that your torso appears longer and svelte.)

If you feel the cap sleeve is unflattering, then is there time to keep looking?

Echoing the others here; I think the neckline is absolutely fine and the dress is super flattering except for the sleeves! But I liked your other sweater dress a lot and think it will work really well, too.
