cami's under shirts / dresses - Question?????

ok, when you wear a cami under a garment do you usually also wear a bra? I have several tanks / cami's with a built in bra shelf, but always also wear a bra under it. It's just so bulky feeling.

what's your take on this.... can a cami stand alone????

teri, I always wear a bra! Those camis with built ins just don't give enough support. So, I wear the most comfortable bra possible with my camis, all of which are snug fitting and thin, even the silk ones.

I dont' wear anything without a bra. I usually cut the shelf bra out of camis and tanks. Unless you really have no boobage, I'd advise that you always wear a bra.

I am small on top, but I always wear a bra with a cami. I try to buy plain tanks and camis and avoid those shelf bras--they just don't hit me right.

I dislike the feeling of a bra under a shelf bra. I buy the B.P. camisoles from Nordies that Angie recommends. They have no shelf liner and are nice and long.

I agree with everyone: I hate those shelf bras and cut them out (or buy ones without them) and always wear a bra.

In short, NO!! And I'd feel this way even if I wasn't extremely busty. A shelf bra doesn't really count as a bra -- breasts of any size require a lot more support than that.
If I may propose a solution...have you tried camis that don't have the shelf bra? I can see how that would feel uncomfortable on top of a real one. Camis in a nice, stretchy, silky material would also help, since it can glide over bras more easily. I personally wear nothing else.

I always wear a bra with camis, and refuse to buy camis with a shelf bra. Though I have virtually no bust to speak of and need no support, I prefer the extra coverage and shaping of a molded cup bra.

I loathe shelf bras. I don't think I know anyone who likes them, regardless of bust size! I don't buy camis that have them and I always wear a bra with a cami.

(Although there was that one time last year...I wore a shirtdress with a cami and somehow FORGOT MY BRA. At work. And no one noticed...one of the few times I'm grateful that I mostly sit behind a desk!)

The types of camis that have shelf bras I save for sleepwear and lounging. You know, for those times around the house where you don't want or need a bra on, but it's nice to have just a little something in the way of support. And I'm small busted - I'm sure larger busted gals would appreciate them in lounge situations even more than I.

The bra is not exactly an underwire, but works just as well as layering over a bra. It is NOT a shelf bra. I ordered one in a cup size down/band size up and it is a little less snug, so I could wear it alone in summer.

I think MaryK got the lower-neck version because she does not have cleavage-phobia like I do.
