Camera Tripods - Suggestions?

Between a broken mirror and one that makes everything look suspiciously wider, I think I've had it with mirrors. I know that some of you ladies use tripods to take pictures using the self-timer (kari?) Would you be kind enough to share what you use and where I could buy one? I am looking online, but would love some feedback nonetheless.

Hi Vani,
My hubby is into photography and bought a tripod about 2-3 years back from Sears for 20-25 bucks.I am not sure about the brand.The picture clarity is much better with the tripod.
I will check the brand and tell you by evening.

Vani, I usually save my full-size tripod for times when getting a clear shot is really important, especially when I'm outside. Most of the time I use this mini tripod, which is very small and has a strap to fasten to posts/branches if you're taking photos on the go.

But for daily photos where I'm just trying to get a clear-ish shot of what I put on my body, I am usually in a hurry and don't mess with the light, and the room I photograph in is small enough that I cut off either my head or feet if I position the camera horizontally on a tripod. My camera has a pretty flat side and a viewfinder that swivels, so I just balance it on end (it's very stable) and center it to where I'm going to stand.

i don't have an official "tripod" but my fiance and i bought this - http://www.eddiebauer.com/cata.....038;init=1 - for our geocaching adventures. if i don't use that, i usually just set my camera on top of my tv and set the timer!

I've tried placing my camera on a ledge/surface. Most places I can do that are around the patio door. The problem is that sometimes, even in the same position, there is just too much light and the picture comes out terribly hazy, washed out.

I've tried against the light, towards the light, quite a bit away from the screen door, all over the place, but can't seem to judge the height or distance well. I'll give it a few more tries today. If not, I'll just break down and order one of the two mini tripods you posted links to.

shell, geocaching is so much fun! I just couldn't get DH to get into it so that pastime never took

Niva, we were lucky enough to find a great tripod at the Goodwill the other day. You just never know what you will find there.

I have a nice tripod but I am too lazy to put it together every morning! Also, I have no idea how to work the timer on my camera...sigh. I am a hobbyist photographer too, but I just haven't put any of what I know there into my outfit shots. Maybe I should...

Ooh, thanks for that bit of info san! I ALWAYS forget to consider places like Goodwill. I will check out Goodwill & SA the next chance I get.
