I love the look on others but have not been able to get it to work with my pale skin.

I think camel can come in a lot of different varieties. How about the more saturated or dark camel, closer to tobacco color? I have pale skin and camel close to my face needs some spice and warmth. Or maybe you could treat it like white, wear it with a brighter scarf or necklace.

I ran across a photo Lena just posted. It's a good example of darker camel and how it can work on pale skin (it also helps if you happen to be a supermodel, ha ha, but I think it could work for the rest of us)...

Personally I'm going to go with the olive trend and sit out the camel trend. As a fair-skinned, cool-toned girl I just don't think this color can be flattering on me, and I don't love it enough to try to make it work.

You can always got for camel accessories, or layering pieces where you can stick in another color that you know is flattering to minimize the effect.

Its' funny that Camel & Khaki are both also being advertised in Oz as the colors for the season! I vote Camel bag & shoes and leave it at that, looks lovely with a crisp white.

I am fair skinned, but with warm undertones and warm fairly dark hair. I think it is a color that has the potential to look good on me. I probably won't run out and by a camel t-shirt and wear it alone, but I think I could pull of a camel jacket or cardigan. It is one of the tones in my hair, but my face could still probably use another color closest to it.

I have read the same thing, but a lot of magazines also claim that red is the color of the season.

When it comes to camel, I will stick to shoes and bags mostly. However, I think that camel bottoms can be styled in way to work for almost any coloring, such as here:

I like camel. However my idea of the color camel is a bit different from a lot of the camels I'm seeing in stores.

Love the pictures of real camels Kate!

I am not so sure about them looking good on summers. I am a summer and any camel, greyed or not, makes me look like a ghost when worn next to my face. But I do like rich caramel colors which is more along the lines of the ones you like too.

That's what I heard on a particularly dramatic episode of Project Runway. However, gold will also be trending and that makes me happy.

I'm "tawny" and wouldn't touch this color. I'm just getting used to the idea that it's going to be schmucky colors for a few seasons to come (possibly a sign of bad times?). I'll make do with a black/gray/white wardrobe with the occasional purple (for whatever reason, that's the one bright that seems to persist).

Maybe it's a convenient time for a shoppng ban.

I was wondering what others thought of this camel trend- thanks for posting about it April. I'm also fair skinned and every time I try on khaki or camel, I look washed out.

After the gray trend of the last couple of years, I'm not surprised that camel would become the "new" color. I'm sure the marketing gurus wanted to do something to encourage us to shop for new clothes. But I'm with Maya- very convenient time for my shopping ban.

The traditional camel color looks atrocious on me. I remember when it was popular in the 90's along with black denim and I tried & tried to make it work on me. I had a great cropped camel suede blazer during that era. I probably still have it somewhere too. Jean, I should send it to you!

Olive, purple and red are the colours of the season - and LOTS of neutral tones of camel and beige.

It's still black, cream and brights for me.

I love the look of camel, but it's hard for me to wear as well. About 10 years ago I bought a camel coat and really liked it, but always wore it with a black or cream scarf, otherwise my face looked very sallow. Lucky autumns!
I need to look for a purple coat this season while purple is still in.

Huh, I would think of myself as an Autumn and I think I look ghastly in camel. Am I missing something?

I tend to think blondes look good in camel. It makes them look like one long piece of gold. That said, some of the more tobacco camels like Kate posted could work on me.

Whew -- if we add in shades such as tobacco and caramel, I think I'm good to go. It's the color Shana is talking about, the traditional camel, that isn't so flattering on me. I think it matters how much of a pink-y undertone it has (awful on me) vs. a golden one.

Olive and purple -- yay. Those are among my favorite non-neutrals, especially when worn together.

Jean, I thought of you immediately when I started seeing camel everywhere! You definitely deserve a break after The Seasons of Gray. Do you not wear any purple tones? I can imagine you in a plummy shade, but you're the color expert.

Harper's Bazaar says that adding acidic brights to camel is the new way to wear that color. I can't find a photo on their site, but the magazine was showing an acidic lime green turtleneck under a camel jacket. Made me think of Angie.

I love warm tones, so the good news about camel is that there will be lots of coordinating warm toned items to go with it.

That said, I wish the color of the season would be caramel or chestnut. I would snap up everything available then!

April, I do wear purple- I love red- violet. I stay away from any really bright purple. I have a muted purple coat which looks great with green. I may look for a camel coat this season.

Every single year, for years and years, I have tried on a variety of beautiful classic camel jackets - and every single year I am reminded of why I never buy one. Ugh. Just doesn't work on me.

I love the look on others, but I'll stick to navy or olive.
