Camel Coat?

I'm out shopping and really like this coat. I'm wondering about the color on me though. Does it wash me out? I actually have the same coat but it's 3 or 4 years old now in a dark red but that's had a lot of wear with our winters here. It's consignment so this is the only one they have.

Looks like a great classic style + fit on you. If worn unbuttoned you could use your preferred colours as a contrast. Others will be more helpful!

I think it looks great on you, too! You can add a scarf to bring in a different color if you like.

Bought it, along with a nice dark denim shirt and a pair of Paige skinnies.

So glad you got it! It be great to see a pic with non-store lighting. But the fit is perfect and yes, scarves can help a lot.

I will be honest and say you look washed out on my phone. HOWEVER, the fit is extremely perfect and you look SHARP. I'd buy it and wear red lipstick.

Rachylou- do you still think it's washing me out? I have 7 days to return it. I have no makeup on in this pic as I've been fighting a migraine all day today.

I thought it did wash you out a bit, but wearing it with a scarf when closed will take care of that. Keep it . The shape is lovely on you.

I've given you a Yay. I guess it doesn't lift your face really so a bit of a washing out effect. I think you can live with that by wearing scarves because it fits so well and now you can ring the changes with the red one therefore preserving that one more also. I am a 30 wears person ( trying to wear all new things 30 times or not buy them) but I think it sounds like you'll make 30 wears within a couple of years?

JenniNZ- I live in Minnesota so I should be able to get 30 wears out of the new coat pretty quickly as it's winter here close to 6 months out of the year. I do think I will try to find some more colorful scarves to wear near my face.

It's really hard to assess how the color looks on you because both of these photos skew very warm due to the wall colors. But I think the fit and style is fabulous and agree a scarf can change the color near your face if you are feeling drab. But I think it's a keeper.

I voted Yay. It's a good style that you know you like, and it looks really nice on you. Color flattery is hard to tell; it looks better in the second photo, but I think you are the best judge in real life. Camel tones can be hard to get right.
My only question would be: if you keep this coat, and it's not quite perfect (for example, it's not similar in color to the one that you have worn out, so is it a good replacement?), will it hold you back from finding or buying the perfect replacement for your red coat? Another question: Will you enjoy wearing it, or will you always wish it were closer in color to the old favorite, or even wish for something entirely different?

Firecracker- I would likely still buy another coat in a red or burgundy if I find one. I have multiple winter coats, as other than my 3/4 length parka that I wear when it's super cold most of the others I tend to vary depending on what I'm wearing underneath. Maybe I justify them to myself that because I live somewhere so cold I like to be able to vary my winter coats instead of wearing the same one for an entire winter.

Wow, you are trying on winter coats in the middle of summer. You must be a plan ahead kind of gal! I love a camel coat, but cannot get it to work against my fair skin and blond hair. I think you look great in it. Do you ever wear your hair down? It looks like it would be pretty. Nice job brightening it up with the scarf. Enjoy your new coat!
