Calling all inverted triangle/rectangle tendencies!

Hey! It's been a while since I have been on but I plan to go shopping for some clothing and wanted to know who else out there had my body shape so maybe I could get some ideas from your own pics before I head out this weekend? I am looking for casual tops and jeans as well as some skirts. Any ideas on sweaters would also be great! My shape is in the heading and I am 5'4".

Did someone call my name? We have several ITs here with different styles, and I'm sure they will chime in! My go to formula for casual is skinnies, chunky boots, and tunics or oversized sweaters. But tell us a bit more about your style preferences and where you like to shop!

Since I live in a smaller town I have actually had the best success shopping at TJ Maxx because there is a lot of different variety. The hardest thing there is sorting through it all. I would definitely be open to other suggestions though. I tend to lean towards a classic style rather than anything really trendy. I also seem to really focus in on how outfits define my waist, due to the fact that my waist is where I like my shape the least. (Rectangle). This is probably why I never realized that I was an IT until posting pics. I have a larger bust so I sometimes feel that, instead of getting that lovely look of loose and flowing tops that skim your body, I end up looking like a box. That might not even make any sense but that is how I end up feeling.

Here! Here! I'm here! I'm an IT too. I'm at least two sizes larger on top because of my shoulders than I am on my bottom. I don't have much of a waist either. (High five, Una! My super stylish IT sister!)

Oh, you will definitely want to look at K's work outfits for amazing classic with an edge style. I am only 5'1", a little busty (32D) and have no real waistline. I'm generally a size smaller on the bottom (4) than on top (6 or M). I think with a V neck and the right combination of factors you can get a flattering oversized look. For me, that involves fitted sleeves, a flowy hem that drops lower on the sides, and a non-clingy fabric.

See here for an example of such a sweater - it's very waist-surrendering but I think it works.

K- brick and mortar is generally how I shop. I have actually looked at K's clothing because she had posted when I was first trying to figure out what my shape was and, I have found some things I really liked. Alaska girl, thanks for the ideas. I am similar in shape in that I wear one size bigger on the top than on the bottom. 5'4" and a 32 ddd bust so any advice on tops is so appreciated. Also, to help a little more I should tell you all that I am a Mom on the Go so any thoughts on more clothing that would work for this would be great although I do really like to dress up as well. I will be watching each of you now and learn all I can!

Memememe!!!! I actually only discovered I'm IT after thinking I was a rectangle/apple all along!

I've been posting a bit more frequently, so have a look at my WIW posts for ideas. Not sure what your style is like but if you do modern classic/romantic, feel free to copy my outfits

Like Una, I have a tried and true formula that works for me:

A-line top (usually tunic length)

Skinny jeans (or leans/Jeggings/leggings if tucking in tall boots)

Unstructured/draped/semi-fitted topper

Block heeled comfy tall boots or booties (I'm the higher heel type)

Oh... And statement jewelry (or trademark bling as Beth Ann calls it).

I am IT, too! The silhouettes that work for me are tunic-like soft blouses - a little loose cut and fluid so that it fall straight from the waist, narrow V-necks and higher crew/scoop neck that shows the collarbone (I am small-busted), straight/skinny leg pants, and angular sheath dresses. I recently purchased a fluted skirt at Banana Republic, and the shape works surprisingly well at adding curves my flat bottom.

Last week in Urban Outfitters, every top I saw seemed tailor made for the IT body type: wide, relaxed, drapey shoulders tapering down at the waist.
