Calling all interior decorators! Please help me pick bath towels...

1 trip to Target, 2 trips to Kohls and 5 sets of towels later I'm at a loss. Which towel do you think is best? The first picture is probably the best color representation. The last one is the new curtain I bought that sent me on this frenzied towel quest. Thus my desire to go with brown towels.

Oh, and the towels are in the same order in all the pictures.

And yes, this is fashion related because I cannot possibly think straight about what to wear if I'm spending my morning in a bathroom that doesn't match

Here are my thoughts on each one, from left to right:

#1: Undertones are too yellow with the paint color. Return.
#2: Blends too much with wall color. Return.
#3: Keep if you want lower contrast with the walls.
#4: Keep if you want high contrast.

Does that help?

P.S. This reaffirms why I stick to white and cream towels. No agonizing!

Ok, this probably won't help much but I need to see the towels next to the shower curtain to pick the brown. I personally would use white or cream towels with the beautiful wall color.

Lynn, They all work with the curtain, and really none of them will be right next to the curtain so I wasn't thinking it mattered as much. But I can add more pics. I have a cream type now that I hate, and I thought about white, but decided that wouldn't do anything for helping meld the curtain into the scenery.

FWIW, it IS a shower curtain, but I'm using it as a window curtain.. just need to shorten it a bit. I can't get a pic of the curtain on the window right now as there is too much back light.

No help here, QM -- I only buy white towels, sheets, napkins, washcloths, and dishtowels.

You all are confirming my thoughts.
I had bought another dark set at Target actually first, but decided the bath sheet was too big and they didn't have regular size towels in the store or on line.

Brought home the 3 lighter sets from Kohl's and narrowed it down to the third from the left but still wasn't completely satisfied, so went back and picked up the darkest set, but then wondered if it was too dark. That is when I turned to you all for help

I posted a pic on Facebook too and the polls are currently overwhelmingly favoring the darkest one.

I like #4 for its rich color and contrast (but keep in mind I have muted aqua walls with chocolate towels in one bathroom - very zen-like). Then I'd include a couple hand towels of #3 because it repeats the wall color and ties it all together. . .

And aren't these sort of decisions frustrating?!

Sara- something about chocolate brown towels is very appealing to me.

I added one more photo in the original post.. that's the dark towel with the curtain. Yay? Nay?

I vote for 3 and then 4. Love love the paint colour, and the curtain is fab!

I vote for bath and hand towels in #4 with accent washcloths hung over the hand towels in #3. I definitely prefer the stronger contrast of #4 overall.

Chocolate should be the main towel color, and any of the others could be the accent hand towels.

BF (the resident interior decorator in our own colorful house) and I both vote #4. I like #2 as contrasting color with it.
We don't know what white is in our house - not the walls, not the towels, not the sheets!

Yep, chocolate is the best! Just don't wash them with anything light colors! Beautiful bath!!

I am a white towel person because I have kids and I like to bleach the towels. I love the chocolate but wonder how they will wash. They may fade quickly.

so sorry to have not gotten back last night. We had a little minor crisis to deal with. Thanks for all your input.

I had left the dark brown up all day yesterday to see what I thought and I was good with them until we got home last night. Without natural light I then wondered if they were too dark.

Here are early morning pictures of the 2 on the right end.

1/2... we'll call this one "cocoa"

3/4... chocolate

I wanted to show you the whole curtain too. It is pooling quite a bit at the bottom.. is that stylish or should I hem them up a bit (I'd still leave a bit of scrunch) what is PCL? (proper curtain length.. LOL) And did I hang it too high?

I know that the most stylish gals on the web won't steer me wrong even when it comes to my bathroom

qpswan- I wondered about fading too. Maybe I should soak them in a vinegar bath like I do my jeans.

I like the two from the right. I like to have two colors of towels, if I have colored towels. I'm actually moving away from all colors. I prefer white towels in the bathrooms these days. Easy to bleach, and if the get mucked up, you can easily replace, match or coordinate with new ones.

The chocolate is perfect with the lighter color as an accent/alternative. You really need both colors for interest. Charcoal grey would be great as a 3rd color.....

Ditto to everything Rita said! Bit by bit, we're replacing our aging towels with white towels from Restoration Hardware. They're expensive but very nice.

I have a background in interior design too. I do like the dark chocolate against that wall color.

I get what you all are saying about using 2 colors for accent/interest, but here's the reality... The bath towels only hang nice and folded like that right after laundering, and I don't wash them every day. After use, they get hung open on the towel bar to dry until tomorrow's shower, so hanging an accent handtowel or washcloth with the bath towels is really not an option. I guess I could do a washcloth with the hand towels, but I'm not sure how nice and tidy it would stay put even. Maybe I'll try that though,

I'm really waffling between the two darker colors. I'm driving myself crazy! I do love my curtain though!

I still think you should have at least 2, and preferably 3, colors...that way you'll never get bored! Maybe you can get an extra set to display on a shelf, in a basket or on an extra towel bar?

Chcolate may be dark, but it's rich and warm and triggers love (cravings) in everyone

Pooling curtains are fine with me, but where they are, the hems might get repeatedly wet? If that's the case, then shorten so they don't touch the tub. Otherwise, leave them as is.

I hear what everyone says about white towels, but dark (i.e. chocolate) towels are just are practical if they hold their color - plus no need to bleach. I've actually had terrific 'luck' with Target's top-end towels du jour. I've had rotten 'luck' with Ralh Lauren towels Go figure!

I almost tried the NAS hydrocotton towles, but they don't have my dark grey color for now. . .
