Calling all Canadians/Toronto area

Hi all,

I might be able to travel to Toronto next May with my husband who will be attending a conference there. That means time on my own, and that is exciting! What is there to do & see in Toronto? Are there anything I should be on the lookout for, fashion-wise, while I'm there?

Any suggestions in regard to sightseeing, shopping and dining is most welcome - and hotel suggestions, too!

How exciting! There are some great museums and galleries in Toronto, and excellent shopping, theatre and restaurants. If budget is not an issue, the Hazelton Hotel in the Yorkville area is very well situated in an area of posh shops and restaurants. But there are many nice hotels, and the city is quite walkable.

Angie, I would be so delighted to visit you and Seattle in my red coat! I was in Seattle in 2008, and I truly enjoyed my visit.

Missvee, that sounds very promising. I've been to Montreal once, and I've hoped to return to se more of Canada. The hotel sounds very interesting, and I will check it out. Thanks!

I suggest a YLF meetup while you are in the city!!

There is lots to do in Toronto and May is a lovely time to visit. I don't live there but often go to the city. It would be fun to try to arrange this - we could post on the front page (I think) to find interested members. IF you have time, of course!

Oh, I would love to come in to the city for a meetup. May is generally great for me, as classes are over, so I am sure I could slip out for a day (or two!) of holidays.

Ingunn, if we don't have a meet-up, there are still lots of great places in Toronto to visit. If you like museums, the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) is pretty awesome and the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) is also fantastic. There is also the Bata Shoe Museum - a whole museum dedicated to shoes! Imagine! The shopping in Toronto is amazing, especially at The Eaton Centre. And Toronto is also a great destination for many musicals and plays. Also, if you stay downtown, the transportation system (bus and subway) is excellent and makes it easy to get around.

I lived there for a year while I completed my teaching degree at the University of Toronto. It really is a great city!

This sounds really terrific to me. I would LOVE to meet you all in Toronto! The dates in question is May 1-4. I have to check if I can take a couple of days off, but normally, that's quite easy to arrange.
