My calf hair Okalas seem to be holding up well, but I haven't worn them a ton. My Matisse leopard print booties have been worn more, and they show just a little bit of wear on the tip of the pointy toe, and maybe on the back of the heel, but it's not really noticeable with the spotty print. I wonder if the solid color would hide possible wear.
Mine are still in good shape, but I've been really careful with them. I've seen calf hair shoes in the second hand stores and the hair usually gets worn away on the heels and toes (the heels aren't a problem with the Okalas though).
I'm wondering this too (about a pair of boots I'm contemplating) how does calf hair hold up to a tiny bit of wet? Not rain, but the occasional splash?
I have a Fossil bag with calf hair and the narrow strip on the back side of the bag that always rubs against my body has rubbed off some hair after about 50+ wearings.
I have sworn off calf hair because mine always show wear on the tip of the toe and at the heel. That said, I love my pony print Okalas and do not regret buying them. I have worn them about a dozen times and the calf hair has rubbed off a bit at the point, but I am rough on my shoes and a little clumsy, so I probably knock the toe a bit more than the average person would. Luckily, I got a pair that has black at the tip, so I just fill in the space with black sharpie.
My calf hair Okalas are holding up well but I do baby them. The problem I have is with calf hair belts, especially wearing them in belt loops. The hair seems to get pushed the wrong way and when I take off the belt it sort of sticks out in places. So far though I have been able to put it right but I do worry that constant pressure in the same area might damage the belt. Only time will tell.
I have the Okalas, another pair of shoes, and a belt in calf hair. So far, so good. Granted, I don't wear the shoes a whole lot and am careful when I do wear. I have been caught in wet, however -- not a downpour, but light rain -- and they held up fine. As Angela says, belts can be trickier. Mine is starting to show some wear. But I wore that about 100 times last year, no joke.
