I agree about just buying something cute down there. I do worry that jeans may be too hot, but I look awful in capris (don't own any either) and in a YLF context shorts are kind of tacky even for me.

I will, however, have very cute Giveable flats. I hope that redeems me somewhat.

I'm a little reluctant to buy anything because it's not my season. I have a couple of ideas if casual shorts and boots will be okay. I'm wondering how the temps will be? If we're mostly inside that's also a factor, although I would love to get some sunshine!

Hi Una, don't fret. First, as you probably know, California is so open to so many styles, there is really no wrong way, except if you are uncomfortable.

Have you scanned "The Vivienne Files" lately? She is showing how she packs her fantastic travel capsules, how the outfit she wears on the plane is constructed, and I think it could all help tremendously.

One natural item to fab up any outfit would be your Theory blazer, and I know from watching your posts that it is very versatile. I would also like to see your yellow plaid pants (just a suggestion). ;~)

The forecast has evolved to upper 70s for that weekend. The South Coast day will be mostly inside, but the Fashion Island, Lab, and flea market are open air. You might be able to swing BF jeans and a tank top; I don't know how your heat tolerance is. What about the drop-waist dress you wore in Hawaii?

In case you would like to borrow something once you get here, I can bring down extra BF shorts or one of my lose sundresses. Then you don't have to buy stuff you won't use.

I'm so far into Fall now that I don't even remember what I wore in summer. I'm actually thinking of taking pics of the stuff and asking for opinions here. I traditionally ABHOR anything I've worn to meetups.

For the indoor day, I'd wear jeans + short sleeves/tank top. Or how would you feel about your Allsaints asymmetric tank + capri leggings (if you own them)?

@Rae: Does it make sense to wear a 2-piece outfit for the outdoor day in case we need to try things on in quasi public? Or is a dress ok?

I've got pretty high heat tolerance, Rae. If shorts and t-shirts are good, I'll bring that drop-waist dress (it's on my packing list!) for anything dressier. It is only 3 days, but I want to look fab and have room to bring stuff back! Sounds like I have some homework this weekend.

Sylvie, I plan to wear separates for the reason you described. I also find it easier to try on tops/jackets/sweaters without going into the fitting room and this seems to work out better for me if I'm not in a dress.

I'm wearing jeans (all colors!)! It's going to be much cooler than it has been, so I wouldn't worry too much about the heat. Plus the a/c in the mall will be arctic.

Una, wait ! What about the BFs, those are coming right?All of your BF outfits are fantastic, pop an Equipment blouse, booties, you are done. I am a big fan of your short outfits too.

Thank the fashion gods there is quite a number of attendees at your same size range, should you need anything.

Re. Theory blazer, I think you should bring it. As a matter of fact, I am planning to wear a heather gray blazer with an outfit TBD, since I'm determined to bring the Fluevog oxfords with me. I want to built a small capsule for them, on this trip. If it's hot, so be it!!!! I am super heat resistant.

I am bringing a pair of colored skinnies too, perhaps teal or cobalt, along with the BFs, the bootcuts I had when I met you in NY and a pair of black skinnies. Tops and shoes TBD.

Not to ruin the surprise, but if it helps here's what I'm packing to wear under the assumption that it's in the 70s:

Tops - tee, tank, two summer sweaters
Bottoms - twill pants, bf jeans, cropped cargoes
Jackets - one leather, one fabric
Shoes - short boots, loafers

I decided too. I tend to add things last minute but this is what I have so far:
Tops: V neck blouson tee, one printed blouse, one silk blouse, 1 oversized sweater.
Bottoms: 1 bootcut, 1 BFs, 1 skinny jean.
Shoes: 1 oxfords, 1 wedge sandal, 1 booties
Jackets: 1 blazer, 1 leather
2 belts, 1 bag.

Maybe I'm under packing. I'm only there Sat/Sun so the plan was:

Day 1:
Cotton tunic
Capri leggings
Flat sandals
Gold purse
Denim jacket

Day 2 option 1:
Silk blouse
Grey jeans
(same sandals and purse as first day)

Day 2 option 2:
Pink/red/purple dress.

(will only bring one of the Day 2 options)
+ Emergency scarf for plane + A/C

Won't it be too hot for blazers and leather jackets and boots? I run warm. Like a volcano. Or a nuclear furnace.

Sylvie, we'll be indoors for the most part so that's where jackets come in. I wore my blazers and booties quite comfortably last year. Also, I run cooler so I wear short boots up through 75F or so

Not sure Silvie, I run at normal temperatures, but we'll see. I can do a light blazer up to 75 or so degrees but I'm bringing a topper for morning and night especially. My leather jacket is actually a summer one. It has perforated panels. The booties are similar to the report marks, those seem to be all season for me.

i visit my sister in LA at xmas. it's in the 70's, i'm in open toed shoes. she is in knee high boots and a leather jacket because "it's winter." everyone at dinner was in knee high boots. it's as if i didn't get the memo.

so dress as if it's alaska on a freakish warm fall day and you'll fit right in.

I haven't thought "specfic"s yet about what I'm going to wear next weekend, but I realize that I don't have to make any decision until the weekend actually arrives. In looking at last year's photos - we all wore skinnies, booties, shorts, oxfords, tanks with a light pull-over, jackets over light tops, skirts, and tanks - pretty much anything goes where we live! Don't stress about it, OK? If I were going to have to decide right now what I was going to wear, this would be it:

BF jeans, booties, tank, and jersey cover-up
Shorts (long ones), mid-calf boots, sleeveless top, jacket (if I'm chilly)
Skinnies, tunic, booties, light scarf
Probably same cross-body bag for all 3 days
I'm only going to wear one outfit each day!

For me, its going to be important to wear things that I can easily take on and off!
