Oh no! I'm so sorry, Shannon.

I'm so sorry Shannon. Give DB a scratch from me

I'm so sorry, Shannon. From one cat mom to another, sending you hugs!

I am so sorry, Shannon.

I am torn. I am so sad for your beautiful Gain, but I had to laugh at the name "Dusty Bottom" - I'm sure there's a story behind that one!

I am sorry to hear about your loss.

Oh, how sad, Shannon. And it came on so quickly. Your little man had a good life with you and was quite the ambassador for Dusty Bottom. I'm curious about both names.

Thank you all so much for your kind words and sympathy. It definitely helps.

There is indeed a story behind the names of my fur babies. They both came from a no kill rescue shelter. Gain arrived first. He and his two biological brothers were dropped at the doorstep in a laundry basket and so the rescue named all three kittens after laundry detergent - Tide, Cheer and Gain. Gain was the last of the three to be adopted.

Dusty Bottom got his name due to horrendous circumstances. He was found in a wooden crate in a ditch and when the rescue organization opened the crate, they found an 8 week old kitten covered in over 20 cigarette burns and lacerations. He was soaked in blood and when they lifted him out, all the dust that had been in the crate stuck to his bloody body - the rescue worker said "oh my, look at your dusty bottom" and the name stuck.

The two kitties were room mates at the rescue and such close buddies. We couldn't adopt Gain and not bring Dusty Bottom too. It took Dusty more than 4 months to let us near him and probably close to year before we could touch him. But he would watch Gain and follow him everywhere. They were very sweet together. Here's a pic of the boys.

We were worried about how Dusty would do today but he seems to be doing ok. He ate and used his litter box, which are good signs. He keeps going to Gain's bed and smelling it. So sad.

A tough loss especially with a short lived life, sending you virtual hugs and I am sure the frolicking with many other kitties is in play!

I am so very sorry for your loss.

What a kitty story.

Oh Shannon, I am so sorry to hear about beautiful sweet Gain. The photo of Gain and Dusty Bottom together is soooo sweet. What an incredible rescue story! I am glad to hear DB is doing alright so far. We used to have another cat, Ninnin, who passed several years ago and we were concerned with Kitty who also continued to look for her for a long time; they didn't even get along all that well, I can't imagine how he'd have dealt with it if they were close. I hope DB continues to do well, and that he can find his own confidence. Big hugs to you and your family, it's tough

Shannon I am so sorry. I am a cat lover and kitties are such lovely family members. I know Gain will be missed by you. Sending you hugs xxx

I am so sorry for your loss - and for Dusty's.

If only these little furbabies would live longer...They give their precious, accepting love and then have to leave us...I am so sorry about your pup...I know it is cliche but time does make it better...You won't forget but it will be better...So sorry...

It is so sad when pets die. At least they do not fear death I guess. I am sure Gain had was a very happy cat with you. Take care!

I missed this yesterday Shannon, I'm so sorry to hear it. Loosing a pet is hard. You realize how unique thier little (big) personalities are, and how their funny little habbits become part of your lives. I hope Dusty Bottom does ok. And thanks for sharing their stories.

Oh, Shannon, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Gain's time with you may have been short but you gave him a wonderful life. The story of the laundry detergent names is too cute. Dusty Bottom's story was so hard to read. I cannot fathom how anyone could hurt an innocent animal. You are a good soul to have opened your home and hearts to both of them. I am glad to hear that DB seems to be doing ok. Hugs to both of you.

So sorry for your loss - it's never easy when our beloved pets leave us.

I am very sorry for the loss of your sweet fluffy boy. I enjoyed reading your stories of Gain and Dusty; they were lucky to have you. And, of course, you are lucky to have had them too. I love your pictures!

I'm so sorry for your loss Shannon! Gain was such a special and cute kitty--he was lucky to have such a kind mama! Give Dusty Bottom an extra hug and chin scratch!

Aww, Shannon, I am so sorry to hear about Gain. What a cutie pie he was. It's so hard to lose our furbabies. They leave such huge holes for their sizes. I'm sending lots of hugs your way.

I am so sorry for your loss. What a beautiful photo.

Shannon, I'm so, so sorry.

Too sad. I am so sorry for your loss. I loved Gain especially because I have an orange kitty too. Lots of love to your family and Dusty Bottom.
