Buying "my" sweater back from Ann Taylor--nuts?

I hope you may find this amusing at the same time being willing to offer a critique, or been there, done that wisdom.

I bought this AT merino collared sweater on-line, on a sale. I usually don't go for Johnny collars, but button-fronts have been giving me trouble, as have turtlenecks, so I liked the higher neckline, really liked the color and the fine guage wool knit. But, I thought it was too small and should fit more fluidly,(especially for wearing untucked) so I returned it to the store spit-spot.

I discovered the next size up was sold out and has never come back into stock. Customer service told me the local AT could try to locate one of a few that are in stores somewhere, returned by other customers.

I tried on a similar sweater in another fabric, and in the next size up I get that chicken-neck thing with fixed collars. Might or might not be the same in this sweater.

Well, back at the old AT ranch, "my" sweater was marked down to 75% off . I brought it home and tried it with my new skirts--the famous BR glen plaid (Suz, Ceit have the pants), and the AT knit, longer skirt.

What do you think? Sales goggles, or I've been taken up to the AT mother ship where they've altered my brain, or does it work in this size ?

Thanks, Emily and Ceit! I think it works, and I've been playing for Team Merino this fall (with a ringer from cashmere). I've been so worried about wearing my clothing too tight up top that I might have gotten a little addled about acceptable fits.

I hate hate hate ordering more than one size at a time but I've started doing more of that, at least if there is free shipping and local returns, so I can do that eeny-meeny thing.

I think it is fitted but with ease. It is not tight. So I think it looks nice but it is not fluid which I think around here means a little oversized. Do you feel amazing in it? Like a super woman? Feeling pretty or just "good" (or "well" to be proper) are also acceptable responses.

You are so slight that I think if something is too big it runs the danger of overwhelming you. To my eye, this looks good and the right size for you.

Pretty color and it looks like it fits well, but how does it *feel* to you? I hear you on the fluid fit thing...two sweaters I bought last year and wore a LOT are just feeling too close this year.

On another note, is your hair longer or am I imagining things?

I think the fit looks great.

I have had big long discussions with myself about choosing the correct size in a knitwear style. Sometimes both are "right" and it just depends on how you plan to style it. Here I like the skimming fit with the pencil. Larger likely would look a little sloppy on your frame.

Mia, I hear you! And it depends on the cut.
For carambola, I think I will mostly wear it tucked in so it works with my tucking pants. It has that problem of band-bottom that for me can be an issue as a long-waisted pear, but if I tuck it in I can take advantage of it as "neater" look, plus it allows a little bit of poufing rather than pulling it down tightly.

I think it works perfectly for a tailored fit. There's no pulling across the shoulders or bust line, so I vote keep. I love that color for you, and see? It goes with two of your skirts already.

This top looks good to my eye. I have also purchased and returned, then repurchased an item in the past. Sometimes you just can't get it out of your head until you own the item.
