Buttons and belts showing through thin shirts

I’ve noticed sometimes that when I am wearing a thin shirt; like a tank top that a belt buckle or metal pants button shines through the material. It’s most noticeable in sunlight or in photos when camera flash is on.
Would you say this ruins the outfit, or it’s not something that matters?

Lol, I can't stand this and will therfore tuck or leave the belt ;).

I wouldn't mind if it was a loose top, but with more tailored tops the belt buckle can create a bulge under the top and that I dislike.
Also, when wearing a top over a belt, be aware that the belt buckle can pierce tiny holes into your top.

do you not like it for your own reasons, or has someone noticed and told you it doesn’t look good?

for the most part my tops aren’t tight, and all my belts buckles sit flat luckily and no holes in my shirts.

At one point I did try the invisibelt, but the plastic buckle broke off after a month and the buckle scratched me when I sat down
I usually like to show the belt anyway which the invisibelt isn’t good for so i won’t be buying another just wearing regular belts.
I just wasn’t sure if the look was bad for others to see, as well as the button shining through, I’ve had photos taken that look like a tiny star is on my waist It never bothered me though.

I don't get it. If you're showing the belt, why is it a problem in the first place?

For me it's a matter of degree. If it's really obvious, and my top is a very delicate material, I probably wouldn't wear the belt. I would find some kind of invisibelt if I absolutely needed to wear a belt. Other times, if the material of the top is more substantial, I'm OK with it.

If you look around, you can find other belts that act the same as an invisibelt, since you found the invisibelt uncomfortable. Sometimes any thin belt with a very flat buckle will do the trick.

Angie it’s only a problem when the shirt is untucked and I am wearing the belt underneath for fit purposes or no belt. When my shirt is tucked it’s not a problem.

Gigi most of my belts are flat and I have skinny too. This solves the issue of a bulge, but sometimes the buckle still reflects the light even when covered by a shirt.

Thought I would share what I was talking about.
In this photo you can see the outline of the belt buckle despite me having two shirts, I don’t think it looks bad though. I’ll have to take a clearer photo with another shirt as the buckle shows more.

Jess, I think it looks fine in your pick. It's just a pet peeve for me personally. I can't remember anyone ever commenting on it, it's just always bothered me. The stars have finally aligned and empty belt loops are now acceptable, as well as elasticated waists with NO button, which exhilarates me

I hadn’t replied to this because 2 out of 3 of my current jeans have elasticised waists. The third pair is a Not Your Daughter’s Jeans and it does have belt loops, but I don’t tuck my tops so I leave them empty. Do you really think Liesbeth that it’s OK to leave the belt loops empty when tucking? I’m not sure that my OCD self would let me do that. Those are belt loops- ergo, wear a belt in them!

Lol@jenni: I consider them 'optional', it's not because there's pockets that you have to stuff them ;). Seriously though, I think at some point I started seeing empty belt loops in fashion pics and I took it as a blessing to wear them so (who am I kidding, to KEEP wearing sans belt).

I don’t think it’s very noticeable in that photo.
I collect belts that have very flat buckles, self-covered buckles, and Hipsi belts so as to have low profile under knit tops.
If it’s pretty flat then, I don’t care if the “ low profile “ shows somewhat-it’s fine for it to be evident I’m wearing a belt as long as I like the final profile.
I wear belts most of time even when going untucked because I need the belt to flatten out the pants fastenings— even when I’ve had the waist tailored and often even when they’re good pants with inner buttons, etc.
Meaning, I prefer the slight outline of a flat belt buckle to the outline of the pants material overlaps & fasteners.

In addition, if the belt is slim/ flat, I may place the buckle slightly off- center so my front tummy profile is flatter!

I think you might like Hipsi belts. They are not cheap but I’ve had mine for years and it still looks new. They’re good for a low profile belt that also looks decent if you want to semi-tuck so the belt shows a bit. Amazon has them.

Thank you for the input everyone, but it seems we got a little off track

I only was mentioning about the buckle or button reflecting light through my untucked shirt, not a belt bulge I don’t have that issue thankfully.
But the information posted on belt bulges by all of you and to wear flatter, thinner belts; or the buckle on the side are great ideas! Luckily I have a few different style belts to switch around depending on my outfit and I will probably buy more, lol

If my belt loops are showing I almost always wear a belt.
