Button down challenge - YouLookFab Forum

Before Sal posted her July challenge, I tested myself with wearing my neglected button downs. The least worn shirts are left-over workwear from before I retired (BR navy, Herve Bernard water mark, LE stripe and dot.) I figured that I would be successful if they all ended up in the ironing pile after going through the wash! I wore all my button downs, except the red plaid flannel - and I ADDED a new one (red and white cotton blend check - thrifted.). The most neglected one, the navy striped BR, got the most wears (4). In the process, I re-discovered that cotton and linen shirts are much cooler (on hot summer days) then a T-shirt! I will NOT be editing any button downs, and will in fact be wearing them more in the coming months!

That is great that you fell in love with them again. They suit you well and I agree are super comfortable (and great for sun protection) on hot days.

You look great in a button down. My favourite is your denim one. No surprise. I wear my denim button down constantly in the summer. As Sal pointed out, they are perfect for hot summer days.

I actually wear my button downs to my kid’s rugby games and wear the sleeves long to cover up from the sun. I agree that they’re cooler than t-shirts!

Runcarla, you look great in all the button down shirts. I wear my cotton and linen blend shirts throughout the summer because I like a little more coverage than a T-shirt can offer. I really love #5 and knotted at the waist, it's perfect.

JAileen - I know! Yes. DH does all the ironing!

Joy - I'm on the fence about the LE shirt, and possibly the watermark - but will keep them in rotation through summer. They are both 3/4 sleeve with non-traditional collars and short bodies. Both 5+ YO as well. All the others have traditional styling with long sleeves, full collars, and long bodies that can be tucked or knotted.

These all look great on you. I really like the red on you, you really look great in red! I struggle with button downs but can see how they would be nice and cool - they wouldn't stick to the skin like tees.
