Thanks to all of you who gave me ideas on what to wear with burgundy jeans. I had an hour to kill this afternoon and thought I'd try some of the options.

I am wearing these jeans after a while and noticed they had stretched out at the waist. They need to be washed....there is whiskering at the crotch because I suppose they are too stretchy. I still went ahead with trying some options. Let me know if any of these work. My go to option has been a black crossover top or a black drapey knit that has gold detailing on the shoulders. Both of those work....so I'm not wearing them here.

Shedev and Beth Ann, I'll try cobalt and navy next. Those are the colours I have in abundance! Thank you for your suggestions.

But for now, are any of these tops working? I got lazy and didn't bother changing shoes to match the outfit over and over. I'm wearing the same 2 pairs of flat shoes in all pictures - leopard print pointed toe flats and black square toe flat shoes. I can change shoes and add accessories.....for now I just want to understand what colours work with burgundy ON ME and for these pair of jeans.

I like the tops in #2 and 3 the best. These jeans are so versatile.

They all look great. Blush in 2 and white in 6 are my favorites with #5 with stripes and scarf up there also.

I have a preference for burgundy paired with lighter shades. I love the pairing in #2. Least fav is paired with the black top, but it still works (just my personal preference). Otherwise they all work to me. Super versatile!

It all works! I really like the leopard flats with them.

You know I love my burgundy jeans, and have worn them similarly to your #3.

I had burgundy jeans until recently (they got a little too tight so I got rid of them). I thought they were versatile and went with most neutrals and blues. All of these are good options with #2 being my favorite.

Oh! This outfit lab is eye-opening! To my mind, NONE of these worked. #2 was a bit ok....but I wasn't sure at all.

I'm so glad to know I can treat these jeans like neutrals for my wardrobe! How cool is that?! That means I can wear them in so many different ways! *clapping hands* Brilliant!!!

I think you've got some great options for pairing with burgundy! My favourite is the white floaty top in#6 and I'm liking the stripes for a touch more casual too. I do like the light shade in #2, but is the blush tone 'icy' enough in tone for your cooler Winter colouring? It could just be my laptop screen of course as I'm seeing it as a warm blush.

Diane...you're right. That top is NOT a good colour for me. That's precisely why I haven't worn it with these jeans before. I retrieved the top today from my 'donate' pile. While I like the top...I am not sure how to wear it. Maybe buy a burgundy scarf?

Ah, so maybe my screen wasn't lying? A scarf would certainly help if it had a bit of burgundy in it for sure. It's a great way of wearing your good colours near you face.

Good options here, Maneera.

I like #2, #6 and #7 best. #2 and #6 because of the ease of the cut of the tops, and #7 because the tighter silhouette of the top is low contrast against the jeans.

I love them all! But 1, 2 (perhaps with Diane's caveat-- a cooler blush might work better on you), 5 and 6 are my favourites. You can absolutely treat burgundy as a neutral and with your dark hair you have automatic outfit cohesion.

I echo what many say here so I'll strive to add some additional thoughts.

#1 works fine with burgundy, but on you it would be better with a cardigan, jacket or other topper, maybe olive or other neutral, or even a contrasting color. A denim shirt even?! a long necklace could also work . The color washes you out(is it the photo? hard to tell).
I like #6 for many reasons but definitely needs something around your face like a bib necklace, some gorgeous earrings, etc.
The leopard flats are a no brainer
#2 is my fave
I'd love to see you try a slightly longer style, not too long, maybe in olive or your favorite shade of blue, with 3/4 sleeves. This is because to me these burgundy jeans are reading as a skinny/slim cut and surrendering your waist can be a fun thing to try given that you have curves. This is why #1 is harder, it's making your legs disappear while pushing the bustline forward. this is where the topper I mention above can also help. a buttoned up denim shirt is another example. You can wear a heel with that to lengthen the leg.

That's an awesome analysis, Melinda. I could not have written that better myself!!!!

My weather doesn't allow for toppers in summer. Nothing but denim vest! This is why I have never been keen on trying the jeans out in summer. You're the one who decoded my colouring to be Deep Winter. So to answer your question.....yes, top 1&2 are the wrong color on me but probably the right colours for the jeans. I am weary of light colours from brown/beige family on the top because they emphasise my bust...just like you pointed out.

I do love the idea of blues, tunics and chambray style shirts. I'm going to try those ideas tomorrow. Thanks again for the detailed reply...you make excellent points that are all very helpful

Isn't it, Joy? It's the reason I wear these jeans with only blacks....and mostly in winter. The natural pairing for burgundy is with lighter, earthy colours. And those colours wash me out!

I like the shape and detail on #2 but not as much the color. I love white on you and find it very crisp against the burgundy. I love #5 with the scarf. It feels almost reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn in her skinnies.

Have you tried grey? I find grey hard to work with but a dark charcoal or graphite can work well on a winter and it is one of my favorite neutrals with burgundy. I will look for a picture when I am home later.

Yay, so many ideas for my burgundy jeans
#2 and #6 are my favorites, although I understand the blush issue, it is something difficult to find the right shade of blush for you.
I echo what others said about cobalt. While I was shopping for mine I just happened to be wearing my cobalt blouse and really enjoyed the two colors together.

#2 really stands out to me. I really like the texture on the shirt, which almost mirrors the leopard pattern on the shoes.

Although none of these are "bad", some are better than others.

The white / off white tops in 1, 2, and 6 aren't the best for you with these jeans; they would easily work on a woman with blond hair. On you, I could see these tops with tan shoes (flats, sandals, heels, any tan shoe), or perhaps white tennis shoes or white oxfords (like Vans or Keds); they match the tops, and also work well with the jeans. Those tops would also work well with a black blazer to match your hair, black shoes to match the blazer, allowing the tops to provide contrast.

Blond hair automatically matches these tops with these jeans, which is why I made reference, but the top can look out of place if the entire rest of the outfit is dark, but if there is black right up against it (why I suggested the black blazer), it contrasts rather than sticks out, and does not look out of place.

If you top is all black, like 7, I would suggest the leopard print or another non-black shoe; a black shoe does work, but it works a little better if the jeans aren't the only non-black item in your outfit.

Black shoes would be an excellent choice with the tops in 3 / 5 and 4 (appears black and white striped on my screen), though the leopard print or another shoe color would work well, also. I would actually be curious to see what the 4 top and those jeans looks like with black heeled pumps.

That scarf is optional, BTW; not a necessity but can go well, also, especially with a navy purse / bag.

It's hard to go "wrong" with these jeans, but as requested just offering an opinion on what you presented. Good luck!
