I tend to the warmer versions too - probably more of a maroon than a burgundy.  I agree it is a colour that can move around depending on the undertone and the fabric.  Silk can look very different to wool in this fabric.

I have a new scarf which has maroon and mustard and rust and blue in it - and it has been a brilliant addition to my closet, I love it.

I avoided it for a long time ( a lot of school uniforms in my city have this colour in it) but I now see it as a desirable winter colour.  And the puff sleeve dress which is brighter was a fun summer addition that I wore a lot and plan to wear even more this year.

I really like burgundy but most of my burgundy items are some years old because it just hasn’t been so easy to find lately. I favor the shades that are not too brown or muddy, the ones that probably appear a bit more jewel-toned, or even slightly brighter berry-ish versions. I also like shades that veer more deep rich plum but those have been near impossible to find for years.

You have a very nice collection, Angie.
I have a few items - two silk tops from my event capsule and a color block sweater. With a right undertone, it’s a good color on me but I don’t seek it out.

I love red and so for me, burgundy is a dark red. I prefer my burgundy clothes to be blue based rather than brown, but hard to find in this era of earth tones. My favourite bold lipstick is Plum Lush by Tom Ford.

Such LOVELY burgundy items in your wardrobes! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Irina and Mirjana! You too.

Suz, a cranberry red is one of your best colours. Absolutely embellish the capsule.

Brooklyn, you are Queen Burgundy

Sarah, orange and white are gorgeous with burgundy!

Janet, don't you have a burgundy moto? If not, you need one!

Slim Cat, I empathize. Shoes can be soooo hard. I hope you find more comfy shoes soon. I've broken my pinky toe, so I'm very limited with what I can wear at the moment too. Healing foot issues are slow going......

Burgundy is a good color for me, but mainly the cooler, more purple leaning shades. Lots of beautiful eye candy on this thread!

I wear a small amount of burgundy as of last winter when I found a rare pair of full length Ponte knit pants, then a burgundy velvet jacket. The pants have become too big but I may wear them anyway or see if they can be successfully altered to fit. I do not plan to add more burgundy but do like oxblood which I feel is more rusty red and less purple.

I’m always confused by this! I think of it as an earth tone but it’s often referred to as a cool color. I treat it like brown in my wardrobe— essentially a neutral.

I like a cool shade of burgundy that I call plum or wine. And also my lipstick, now that Bijou mentioned it, is plum.
Beautiful collection Angie!

Angie your items are gorgeous! I have fallen in and of love with burgundy all my life. I am looking forward to wearing it with silver hair this winter. Jessikams I only realised a few years ago that some burgundy is warm and some are cool. I think true Burgundy has blue undertones and is cool, and what is called Maroon is warm, with brown/yellow undertones. Once I noticed this I can clearly see the differences in the pieces I own. Just my 2 cents worth

I was put off by burgundy for years because it was the color of my high school uniform. I've been back to wearing it for a while now and like the jewel-toned versions. I had built a burgundy complement a few years back. It is probably going strong apart from the crossbody bag that I only donated recently because the pleather was falling apart. Not featured in the finds are a pair of tiny genuine garnet studs and a garnet ring purchased in Prague. I adore those pieces.
The first sweater is a new addition from last year. It is a bit more brown than I'd like but the shape is really unique so I love it.
This post reminds me that I also like wearing burgundy mascara with burgundy eyeliner and should look into buying a tube for the winter.

I didn't wear much burgundy until joining YLF, then I developed a small capsule to experiment with it and now it is generally a part of my permanent colors. I like pretty much all shades of it and mix them (which my matchy soul doesn't like but I ignore her protests).

I adore burgundy and having read the comments, it sounds like I'm more on Team Jewel Tone Burgundy--but I also like Earth Tone Burgundy. Jewel tones consistently look good on me, earth tones I'm pickier about. With my body changes and moving toward more natural fibers, I've lost a lot of my old burgundy items but I'm excited to shop for new ones that fit well and feel good to wear. I would love to find a pair of burgundy bootcut jeans (why, oh why is it so hard to find bootcuts in fun colors?), a pair of slacks, a midi skirt, a jacket or coat, a pair of boots or booties, a sweater, and a tee to start my new capsule.

What a beautiful feast of burgundies to peruse here!
A red leaning or slightly brownish burgundy works well for me in cool weather, and I would like to find more pieces. I stay away from very purple or plum types, or very dark burgundies. I am in the habit of calling my type of burgundy Maroon, although I don't know if that's accurate.

Angie, I do have a burgundy faux-suede moto, from Kut a few years ago. Just not in my Finds…

I wouldn’t list burgundy as a favorite, but I surprised myself by loving the burgundy floral dress Angie recommended from NAS. Never say never!

I'm very particular about my burgundies. I much prefer the cool-toned version and tend to avoid the earthier brown-toned ones. I think of the latter as maroon rather than burgundy/wine.

I prefer the more red burgundy and no longer wear burgundy items that are more brown/muted/warm. "My" burgundy is a versatile colour in my wardrobe, as it harmonizes with all my other (cool) colours. I treat burgundy as a non-neutral, but also as a coloured neutral. It is one of my favourite colours for fall and winter items, and I love to remix it with colours like lemon, light blue, teal, deep green, white, grey and navy.

By the way, IMHO "burgundy" and "wine" are simply synonyms. After all, Burgundy IS a wine, you know.

Absolutely love burgundy and I always have a few burgundy bits in my closet - although at the moment I have very little (*credit card starts warming up*).

For myself I prefer the cooler tone and am less fussy about the depth - I'll go from the lighter berries to deeper plums and don't mind mixing them.

Fwiw, like Diana the warmer, brown-leaning burgundy is what I call maroon but no idea if that's right!

Thanks for the burgundy feast, everyone! Fun to see YOUR versions, and the similarities and differences between us

Janet! I THOUGHT so! And don't you have a designer one too?

I have a bit of burgundy in my wardrobe, its really the only earth tone I have. It’s a bit of a tricky colour for me, as it can feel a little too somber depending on the other colours its combined with.

Hmmm, maybe we need a wine tasting party? To see if there's a real difference in color between burgundy and merlot. I think *my* wine color tends more toward Beaujolais nouveau which veers red and not brown.

In January I chose purple as my color for the year, but when I lined up all my "purple" items for a photo, there were only a couple of true purple. The rest were various shades of burgundy--my favorite purple I guess. I don't usually look for these shades, but end up with a lot of it in my closet. I added a couple more in spring.

In my pandemic color experiments, I haven't bought burgundy, but as autumn approaches this is what I'm looking for. I'm giving my niece my much loved but not much worn lately Bordeaux leather jacket from NAS a few years ago. It looks great with her blonde hair and blue eyes. It doesn't feel right on my now, and doesn't fit me as well.

I yearned for some true red tops, but usually ended up with dark red, not quite burgundy. I love red, but don't feel right wearing it, so all shades of burgundy, wine, etc. are my reds and also my purples.

Whatever you call it, I feel good in these variations. In fact, I like to wear burgundy better than purple.

As of January 15, 2022.

Red is my favorite color, so I have all warm shades from tomato to oxblood. But I will also answer in the negative: The first time I thought of burgundy as a brown was last year, when I bought a supposedly deep brown sweater that clearly reads reddish when I put it on, placing it closer to the oxblood category. Had not encountered that before.

Do these count as burgundy or maroon?

They're confusingly listed as 'Cocoa' - so possibly a brownish red colour?

Excellent! Thanks for your burgundy thoughts, and showing us your treasures

MsMaven, hope you bust out that beautiful NAS jacket!

Zaeobi, those absolutley count as burgundy!

Great, thanks for confirming! Think I'm slowly getting the hang of this terminology, lol...
