Burgundy Croc Docs & Target Quilted Jacket - thoughts?

1-4) So I'm trying to get 1-2 pairs of super comfy boots for work - which means 1/2 size larger than my normal size, low heel, etc. These burgundy Docs were the first to arrive and fit.

Pros:
- Roomy toe box
- Slim ankle will prevent feet sliding forward
- Comfy Docs sole

Cons:
- Stiff leather will have to get broken in
- No side zip... they still make boots without this??
- Really not in love with how they look with skinnies, and I wear lots of skinnies at work.

Not a full K/R yet because I have more options coming. But if you'd be so kind... what are your impressions?

5-8) The Target version of the quilted jackets I've been obsessing over. I got both a S and M, but only the small is show, as the M was far too big. I'm thinking the color is totally fab, but I don't like the way it bunches at the sides. I don't know if it's too long in the torso or if it is the side knit panel allowing the contours of my belt to show through, but it bugs me. Also, I know it's unfair to compare it to my Zella but, with those ribbed inserts, I think the jacket should fit much more snugly. Am I being too picky on a $40 jacket?

Not loving the Docs with the skinnies, and I am finding them a little too heavy looking overall. The jacket looks OK, I think you're right about the torso length. It looks great open. I don't mind it too much though, because I see no problem with a puffer jacket having a looser cut; I mean, you normally need to layer stuff under them right?

I actually like both! I don't really understand the problem with skinnies and the Docs?? Too skinhead like from the 80's?
The jacket is a great, rich color. I don't really see a fit issue as a casual observer - perhaps having the Zella to compare is skewing things. I like a longer torso sometimes when it's biting cold and you bend over your skin doesn't get bared to the elements should your shirt hike up some.

Are all quilted jackets supposed to be puffers? This is thin. Hm... I could definitely layer in the chest and arms, but not so much the hip area.

If the Docs are to be primarily worn with skinnies and the work tee, I don't think I'm in love with the overall look. It's a bit gearish to me. The target jacket is a nice color but the fit is not sharp enough. I think I'm voting pass on both.

Oh! I didn't realize it was a thinner jacket (but it makes sense, knowing your climate hehe). Fit-wise, it looks to me like your hips are causing the bunching because it's cutting the length off. Not sure if that's the cut, or if solvable by doing some alterations to the back. You can see that it doesn't happen when the jacket is open.

Re the Docs, I think they just look too chunky in comparison to the very slim denim when they're underneath; if they were OVER the jeans I think they'd probably be fine. I am also slightly biased against chunky footwear, and as much as I try not to let that impair my judgement I am sure that it sometimes does

EDIT: FWIW, I don't mind the jacket fit issues. It looks like a jacket that's supposed to be a little roomy, anyway.

I really like the jacket on you! I tried it on in the store, liked the fit, and decided to order it online (they did not have this color in my size). I don't really see any issues with the fit on you.

The Docs look too chunky to me, too.

Hmm, I am not sure about the Docs. I agree with the others that they look a bit heavy with the skinnies. Would you consider the Clemency style (the ones that I got, with a low heel rather than totally flat) instead? I found them to be a bit less chunky than classic docs, not just because of the heel but because they are cut a little slimmer, I think.

I like the jacket! I do not really see the fit issue - yes, it is not super fitted like the Zella but sometimes that is good. I was actually thinking about ordering it too, but I thought it might be too lightweight for me since I wanted a more casual jacket that could replace my ski jacket.

Ok, I tried the jacket on with my lounge pants, and the bulging is gone. Seems like it was the ribbing clinging to my belt in an odd way. Probably not the best sign for this belt addict... too bad it doesn't have one of those two-way zippers or I could loosen the hips.

On the fence about the docs, lets see what your other options are....not a fan if the jacket, just doesn't look like it fits quite right.

Not all quilted jackets are puffers! Some are more like barn coats... Look up some of the thinner Barbour styles (I'm sure you have). I like this one and I tried it on myself. That said, it could be $40 toward the dream jacket... I am constantly on the lookout for you. Did you see the Burberrys on sale at Nordstrom right now?

Ah, you know me too well. I have one eye on a listing for this Barbour. I tried one on at Madewell and it didn't seem overly puffed, but I don't want to be stung by stealth down.

Gee that jacket looks really good, as well as the boots.

I dream I'm punky. I like docs. That was basically how I dressed when I worked in the shop full of punks (ya, punky, not a punk ;>).

I love the jacket on you - both fit and colour. I think when you are moving/walking this scrunching will diminish. Not too sure about the docs from the point of view of the skinnies but also for comfort. Given your recent foot pain you may not want to have a boot that you need to break in.

I have to agree about the Docs. They look a bit too utilitarian and heavy with the skinny pants but I am just barely starting to adopt this look without fear of making my feet look ginormous. I find if shoes need breaking in, they rarely work out particularly if I'm looking for a shoe for regular wear and it needs to be comfortable for long periods. The lack of side zip would be a pretty big negative for me too. There are literally thousands of boot options available so I think you should set the bar higher.

I do really like the jacket. It is a great color for you and the fit looks really nice.

Well I actually like both but go with your gut Rae.

I prefer the Docs with the straight leg jeans. The jacket is nice, and a really good color on you, but you don't sound completely thrilled with it. Since you have other great jackets, I'd hold off until you find something that fits better and have a 2-way zipper.

I vote pass on the jacket. Not remotely a 10 to my eye.

I LOVE the Docs! You need to buy that goo that softens the leather - works like a charm.

not loving the jacket. sometimes it better not to compromise, it will just leave you wanting what you don't have, and you can use the money for something better

I like the boots with your jeans rolled, but not so much otherwise. The jacket is a great color and looks good open, but I see what you mean about the bunching when closed. How will you usually wear it?
