Brown/Red purse with black footwear?

I recently purchased the Fossil purse in red wool with brown leather accents. I purchased a bunch of others but returned all of them. I also returned the faux boots (thanks to the wise women on YLF). I do not have any brown footwear at all. Do you think this is ok with black veronicas and black booties? Should I rReturn the purse (I still have some time left to do that)? I have this sense that something else in the colour palette should be brown. Any guidance appreciated.

You need this to be very versatile, don't you? I can't remember, but I feel like you said you only have one or two purses at a time, so the more versatile the better.

I don't think your bag and your shoes need to match colors, but I do like to see the colors repeated somewhere else in the outfit if they don't match. If you don't have a lot of brown in your wardrobe, then (if I were in your place) I would return the bag and get one that goes with the most common color in my wardrobe. Or find a really great pair of brown boots!

I think this bag would work with black shoes *if* the shoes are mostly covered by pants. If, however, you are wearing ankle pants, or those rolled to ankle length *or* a skirt/dress, black shoes might be more difficult to pull off. It's not impossible, though, it would just take a bit more consciousness to style some black back into the outfit.

What other colours do you typically wear? If you are a black/navy/gray person then maybe this isn't the best choice, but if you go with taupe, camel, black, red, then I think it could work just fine. Also, what colour are your coats ?

I am blond, grey eyes. think I will do some pictures of my coats. Coats are:
Winter:
- black knee length puffer
- short black puffer
- brown short puffer
- pewter short puffer
- dark grey wool knee length coat.
Spring/ Fall:
-olive military jacket
- black trench
- cream trench
-black quilted moto jacket
there are a couple of light weight ones but they are gear.
I am also hunting for a white or cobalt toggle wool thigh length winter jacket. In my jacket defense - it is very cold here and I need variety.

Given your coat colours, I think a plain coloured bag would be a better bet. I like the idea of either a deep turquoise, cobalt, red or orange something that would stand out yet work with all of your coats.

Based on your coat colours I think you're going to struggle to make the bag work. If you love red, then maybe look for a plain one or one with a bit of trim, black or animal print maybe.

Just jumping back in to say that this is always a really hard situation for me too. I find something that I love at a great price, then I slowly come to realize that it doesn't really fit my wardrobe. It isn't good for what I'm really going to use it for or it doesn't go with the colors that I own or it doesn't really work with my style. It is hard to say goodbye to those items, but I am getting better at letting them go. It is either return it and let someone else enjoy it (and me enjoy something that is a better fit) or figure out a way to make it work either by buying more items that work with it or by tweaking the items that I already own. Either way, it is never as seamless and easy as buying something that does work outright. Sometimes it is worth the effort, and sometimes it is not. Any thoughts on finding a black, red and tan pattern scarf to wear with all your coats?

I would totally carry this bag while wearing black shoes or boots. But I do think it will be a little challenging with your gray and pewter coats.
