Thank you all for your responses!
So taupe booties it will be. Everyone seems to lean towards those.
It looks like half of you like the vest, half prefer without. I think it's hard to completely reject the vest as it fits so well. The skirt and vest I had tailored to really fit me, that's why. And the skirt was tailored more than once, as my body and shape preferences changed. Originally, my grandmother's skirt was a long A-line! You can imagine with the vest, a total nun look. Then in the early 2000, I had it cut into an above-the-knee straight skirt (pic 1 below), then last year into this pencil.
There is a problem, but I am trying to fix it. Ever since it was cut into a pencil, the slit at the back (which was there previously) is now showing the white lining when I walk! Any idea how to fix that? I think I might have to remove the lining around the slit. Sewing the slit shut is impossible, as I wouldn't be able to walk. This vintage material is not very giving (pic 2).
Mander I like your suggestion! Bring the outfit into the 70's!
Harmonica, yes, wear the vest with pants may be best. I actually (believe it or not) have the matching pants too. Will post soon.
Beth Ann, I like your suggestion and will try it.
Missvee, thank you for your input. It is much appreciated. I do have rich brown knee high boots I will try with the skirt alone.
Suz, I can totally imagine you in such a vest and I think you would carry it very well.
