Since there has been some discussion of renewed interest in earth tones and brown lately... I flipped through my mail today and noticed a good bit of brown and warm cinnamon shades in Anthro and Sundance. Sundance tends to be rather boho, but I think some of these pieces can be worked in a quite sophisticated way. Just thought I’d share for inspiration.

I'm right into this, but am now freaked out about the colour of my hair (in terms of not working with these colours).

Awesome Janet, thank you! I really like that jacket in 18. I am even seeing these colours for our spring- lovely satin bronze tops and floaty tunics. I tried the satin top on but the sleeves were too long and not alterable. Lovely for me to get a peek at some US catalogues ( sorry my pedantic primary school teacher mother in my head will not allow me to spell that word with a US spelling )

What gorgeous, warm shades of brown! I’m also drawn to the variety of textures in these outfits. Sadly, I generally can’t wear these colors; they wash me out. However, I might try something this fall in a very dark brown; something which would look good with the colors of the winter palette.

This season looks perfect for StyleFan! These are great colours, I really love how rust compliments denim and shades of blue which is how it works best for me. Looking forward to seeing other forum members in this colour.

Interesting. Angie mentioned mustard and all the shops on my high street now have mustard in the window. I wonder if brown will be featured in the next display change!

I’m enjoying the comeback of brown. I think it’s overdue tbh. I don’t partake in it myself but I do love the look of it.

I just love these colors for fall. I think you’ve shown some particularly polished examples. Aren’t the navy + brown boots great!
I will keep looking for best ways to combine earth tones with black and grays, the staples of my winter wardrobe, or more combinations with berry colors.

Unfrumped, I’m thinking of similar color combinations. I do have a rust colored faux suede moto that I enjoy wearing with black and with blue/denim. I also got a very dark chocolate brown real suede moto (for all of about $25) that I’m looking forward to wearing — I think it would look great with chambray and mid shades of blue or turquoise.

I’m also feeling like shades of gray with brown is looking fresh since it’s been years since we saw that. Love that gray trumpet skirt from Sundance!

I love browns. They don't show dirt, and they remind me of wonderfully decadent things like chocolate and cinnamon and nutmeg and dark vanilla extract and now I'm hungry and want to shop for brown clothes but I have no job

Lisa, I think mixing these shades with cooler neutrals like grey and blue would make them work for you! That’s my strategy at least.

Great inspo. Do you think black and a dark chocolate brown can look ok?

I’ve pared down my wardrobe to black, grey, navy and white with occasional pinks and reds. All the warmth in fall catalogues are throwing me for a loop. I may stick to black with a side helping of black a la lafayette 148 per griffyn’s thread.

Honestly I think this is the most dramatic fashion changes I remember (I have only paid attention to fashion the last 12 years or so). Colors characterize an era in a very strong way and it seems we are entering the age of earth tones.

Yes it's colours more of the seventies would you say? I don't feel I suit brown that much but mixing it with black and bronze will work for me. Because I like that slightly boho/peasant/hippy look which goes with seventies well I'm excited!

Thanks for sharing these pics. Browns have always been a favorite of mine, but often have been hard to find. I think I am going to be in luck this year!

I could see owning the dressier less rugged pieces! Hopefully those colors wont be just mainly in casual wear like they often are. And Jenni NZ im agreeing about bronze

I weeded out brown from my closet several years ago because I just didn't like it on me. Seeing these photos is making me think I may need to revisit our break up! I love the jacket in12. Love the brown and blue combinations as well. Thanks for the inspiration!

I have always leaned towards these shades in Fall , but sometimes it has been hard to find them, lol . I love it when it has it's moment again and I can find pieces easier.

I'm holding out for deep chocolate or dark gray-brown shades. But I may not see many, it seems the rusty browns or lighter caramel shades (leaning towards orange-brown or at least with some yellow undertone to my eye) are the current offerings.

And to think, I just emptied all the brown from my wardrobe...

Donated all my brown trousers and shoes.

@Thistle, me too! I think I kept 2 pairs of brown shoes for those days when nothing else works.

I need to be strategic about adding back in: brown hair + brown eyes + brown clothes works great if you like monochromatic looks, but that's not me. Maybe I'll start with 1-2 pieces and see how it goes.
