Inspired by Jenava's Donald Pilner boots, I ordered these shoes from Maguire (a Montreal based brand of interest to me for a while). I absolutely love the brown croc finish leather, and the chunky style is more my vibe than western is. However, I have never worn Mary Janes even in the 90s, and I am generally not a fan of overly plastic looking black lug soles, or, white stitching - of which there is a double row here!
My small question is, has anyone every coloured over the white stitching on footwear? I would probably choose dark brown first, then go over it with black if the brown didn't work in the subtle tonal way I am hoping for...
My big question is, am I buying the first thing I see in a trend (if brown reptile might qualify as something that is at least available this season), when I should be waiting it out for the "perfect" brown croc or snake item that suits me in all its details?
I ordered two pairs of Aritzia pants to try with the shoes.. Brown plaid trousers were already on my fall shopping list as an item that I had literally saved since the last time brown and wide pants were in style (but of course that pair no longer fits! Luckily they qualified for "thrift your mom's closet" for my 17 yo DD). The Mary Janes look great with the carrot pants which are ankle length and show the whole shoe. They look less great with the longer pants because most of the brown is covered and the sole and stitching are more prominent! If I keep the wider pants I will probably pair with a different shoe.
