Birthday present ideas?

Okay, amazingly, i can't think what to ask my husband to get me for my birthday. It's all part of my current "lost at sea" mode. What do you think would get the most bang for my birthday buck right now? I am really lame in the bag department, but I also am not a bag lady. Also not big on pricey jewelry. Shoes? A suit? Cold hard cash?

My first inclination was to say a handbag, but that was before I got to the part where you stated you're not a bag lady. My next thought was jewelry. If jewels don't really do it for you, then I say cash or gift cards.

You were saying you need work shoes but that's not too exciting for your birthday. Is he a practical gift giver or a statement gift giver?
Gift card to Nordstrom? Do you do online from there or is there one in AK? If you went in person, maybe a lunch date and soemthing fun tied into it or personal shopping appt?

OOOO, I love the idea of a custom suit. Do you have any big stores that you can call to recommend you to a tailor ? It can even be a men's tailor that does bespoke.

I would also vote for a really great, lightweight leather jacket or some Fidji "pumps" for work but very Una.

a custom suit is a great idea...i wondis now is the time to do so? it requires so much mental effort to pick out a good tailore, the silhouette, pants and jacket, skirt or dress, what material, what color. you mentioned being swamped at work leading to this "at sea" feeling a out dress. now about an iou present for later in the year when you have some breathing roomto decide?

A local designer. We have a couple in this little plebian city with no shopping to speak of. A expensive ladies shop would likely make a recommendation and you can interview the said designer and see her styles. She would also want to meet with you to check out your style and talk.

Have him fly Angie in to consult on your current wardrobe put outfits together and take you shopping to fill in wardrobe gaps.

Sona, that would be the best present EVER. However, I think that will have to wait till a big birthday (the big 5-0?)! Chances are I still will not have my act together!

I know of a few custom suit options for men but not for women. I think you should ask for a suit with edge. Something with a detail that will make it more you so you can be conservative but still you.
