With all of the fabbers traveling to major shopping destinations right now, it got me thinking: which physical stores do you wish existed in your area?

I live in DFW, and we have a lot, but I wish we had COS, Uniqlo, and Everlane. What’s missing for you?

I’m moving in the opposite direction, have been trying to support local companies. I’m well aware of Uniqlo and H&M, really would like a shopping district free of them as well as Mango, Zara, and other similar chains.

My B&M is pretty nonexistent- just boutiques, consignment/op shops, and the outlets. TBH the main reason I go in is to get away from the office on my lunchbreak.

I'd loooove a Peruvian Connection- which is Not gonna happen, all the better for my wallet Above anything I want a closer Trader Joes!

In general, I'm happy to have the limited shopping. It means more farms and forests stay put- and I see National Geographic scenery on my way to work

A good old fashioned department store that carries a variety of brands and products! But, I recognize a population of 17,000 just can’t support a large department store.

Hmm, I shop at about 3 stores so I don't need much in the way of variety But if I was asked what to add to our mall, my requests might be a J. Crew or a Boden (not that I've ever bought Boden, but I just want to look round one!). A Gap that doesn't look like a giant clearance bin would be nice too

SF, are there local businesses you wish you had access to? I remember in my university town we had tons of locally owned businesses that sold clothes and shoes that I could walk to, but I remember that I still had to go way out to the mall to buy things like underwear, lol.

Suntiger, I have to drive a half hour to Trader Joe’s, wish mine was closer, too.

Helena, I’d love a Boden, adding to my list. I’m not sure they have stores in North America?

You might’ve hit on something there. I ^could^ get undies at the shop 200 yards away, but they aren’t organic. The organic grocer 50 yards further does sell women’s briefs, bikini underpants, and bras from organic cotton, https://www.peoplewearorganic.de/start/ but not in the styles I find attractive. Berlin has tons of amazing lingerie stores, but they are generally expensive and don’t highlight the ethical principals in production. So sure, being able to get nice, sexy undies that fit well and are sustainably made close to home would be great. But it isn’t exactly on the top of my list of changes needed to make the world a better, fairer place, iykwim.

Btw, my son read online today that 40% of department stores in the US have closed in the last five years—a longer term trend than just covid times.

COS, & Other Stories, maybe Mango. We had a Mango but it closed years ago. Our big flagship Uniqlo and Gap also closed during the pandemic, which is disappointing, but we do still have smaller mall locations for those.

I’d particularly like COS because I find their sizing hard to predict.

Me too on the COS, Greyscale! I know they have free returns but it’s a pain to order multiple sizes all the time.

I would love to have Arket, & Other Stories near me. I do have a lot of stores in a walking distance from me.

I can’t complain with options in our city. But I do find that we get the second or third tier status with Country Road which I find irritating as often the more interesting pieces aren’t available to see locally.

I am looking forward to shopping in a different city hopefully later this year. Hopefully!!

I'd take anything! There are very few retailers in my neck of the woods (beyond a Target, a Gap, and a Banana Republic), hence my love for online shopping!

I’m pretty lucky to live in an area where there is good shopping within an hour’s drive…but the truth is I usually don’t bother going that far. Georgetown (DC) has COS, Fluevog, Veronica Beard, Intermix, etc, but especially during Covid, it requires more effort to go there than I bother with. Elsewhere in DC I can find Uniqlo, Peruvian Connection, and others that aren’t available in Annapolis or Baltimore, which are closer and easier to navigate. I’m usually lazy about going a distance for shopping unless I’m on a mission, LOL.

I would like a well stocked Nordstrom, COS, Everlane, Eileen Fisher, an artist co-op. Some of those closed during the pandemic.

I haven't been shopping in downtown Seattle for nearly two years since the last YLF get together. I tend to spend more time scouring the consignment/thrift stores in my neighborhood as well as the one clothing boutique.

Interestingly here in smallish town Israel I am walking distance to a Zara, H&M, Mango and mall's worth of local stores, including a very good shoe store. But my online options are much more limited than those of you in the US.
