Oh wow, how the world has changed. Instead of greeting my children every morning, I am now communicating through emails to parents, while we work to establish remote/distance learning protocols. The primary focus is to respond to the food insecurity and safety issues for some of our families.
I have been receiving email updates, photos and videos from some of my families. They are amazingly uplifting. Today I scooped up a big dose of courage and sent a video message to my students. I was returning from a nature walk, wearing gear, hair wind blown and my eyes were a bit squinty from the sun. From the looks of the video, my hair and makeup team appear to be on hiatus. I did not look gorgeous, but was recognizable and my voice and smile were the exact same my kids have come to know.

My message was cheerful, so I pushed aside any weird thoughts about how I looked and sent the video out.
The response was almost immediate. Emails began coming in with thank yous from the kids and their parents. Lesson for today: a genuine connection is more important than the polished look I usually aim for.
Stay well and reach out to others. You will feel good and you might make someone else smile.
