I am in love with this piece. IF I pick it up on my way home from work, I will have shopped my closet (SYC) for a mere two days before caving. And this isn't exactly a cave. I had eyed the sweater vest previously. I have no idea why I didn't buy it at that time. I think I left it there because I was not liking the turtleneck with a larger bust. Perhaps when I try it on I will remember why I left it there in the first place.

It would be a fascinating style departure for me.

it's gorgeous.

But... I wonder when one wears something like that? I can't imagine going sleeveless and in a turtleneck at the same time... at least not more than once or twice a year. Would you wear something under it to provide arm warmth? Then you need to make sure the under layer doesn't conflict with the neckline, which means pretty much a tee of some form.

I dunno, I can see it being orphaned.

ElizabethP. You are very wise. I agree with you that the piece seems seasonally confused. I am not that much of a layering person. Perhaps that was why I left it in the store. There was a reason I walked away from it the first time.

So glad you decided against it! I too was having a very difficult time coming up with an ambient temperature in which my arms would be happy to be uncovered and my neck would be happy to be swaddled. Also, for the last couple years, just the thought of anything that close to my neck brings on an immediate hot flash;-)

Good call. It does look seasonally confused for someone who doesn't enjoy layering. And I know from experience - big bust+ turtleneck+layering can be quite a disaster! I don't later much either.....adds unnecessary bulk to my top half that already looks bulkier than my bottom half in cold weather!

I had one of these a few years ago , and ended up giving it away after not wearing it more than once or twice for exactly the reasons mentioned here: big cowl, plus heavy-ish knit, plus breasts = not a great look. Plus the what-to-layer never worked out right. Too much work for one sweater. I have my new crew neck one on right now, with a silk tank underneath for a flash of colour at the side openings and am quite comfortable in my office. I have a blanket/poncho thing to wear over top if necessary.

It's gorgeous, and definitely "cave-in worthy," but I had a similar one and never wore it because it was too hot for summer and not warm enough for winter. It was just too much work to make it work, so I had to rehome it.

The piece is gorgeous. I especially love how it looks on the model ... care free, easy, and elegant.

But in real life, it would be not be care free or easy. In fact, it would be challenging for me to wear for any number of reasons.

I'm not enabling. I'm not. But I'll let you know that my t-shirt sweater was perfect for my cold office in the summer, and I wore it a ton. I removed it outside.
Maybe the turtleneck goes a bit far, but what I'm saying is, don't discount armless sweaters altogether.

The cowl swallowed me up when I tried it on! Also, the side slits looked great from the front, but the back "flap" didn't cover my bum. Oh, how I wanted this to work!

For what it's worth, I wear sleeveless turtleneck sweaters a lot in San Francisco in fall and winter. (And maybe all four seasons? The weather has been confusing this year.) They're almost a wardrobe staple for me because they're perfect for our weather - or at least for me because I run hot. I bring a denim jacket along in case I get chilly. I can see how it would be exactly wrong for most climates, though. Just wanted to say that there is a setting where this makes total sense!

I have the version from last year, which has kind of an open drapey "peek a boo" front, and I wear it frequently. I wear a long sleeved, black and white striped tee under it, and it has a high "fun factor".

I just bought the orange version this weekend and loooove it! Will post an outfit soon. I plan to wear it both sleeveless and layered; I actually much prefer it on its own and have plenty of mild-enough weather across fall, spring, and even summer (yep). The neckline is certainly dramatic, and I can see how it could overwhelm but it's fine for me; I'm petite and bought the regular. In case it's not noticeable in the stock photos the arm holes are low and would require a camisole (I plan to wear one with a pretty lacey trim).

Carole, it may be a bit short in front on you. It fits me about the way it does on the model.

I ordered it in gray too. I bought quite a few lightweight merino wool sweaters last year that I found a bit lightweight for the weather and thought this would be a great piece to layer over them. I also like a longer pendant and the large mock t-neck would accommodate it. I find this type of knit can work well on a vase shape (less curvy hourglass).
