I haven't been shopping since the damage done at the NAS sale. Today I decided to take a look at the fall merchandise. I had the oddest feeling when I went into Banana Republic. Now, I only watched one episode of Mad Men and it was depressing, so I didn't watch again. I looked around in BR and I had the oddest feeling--as though I were in a dream from my younger years and I was looking for an outfit to wear on a date. Just like in the dream world, things just weren't quite right. The clothes were similar, but distorted.
I've seen many different eras come and go in the fashion world. I've laughed to see a patchwork skirt on a mannequin that looked just like a skirt I had in the hippie era. I've giggled over 70s flares and floppy hats. I must say that I've loved 20s and 40s revivals--but then I they weren't "my" eras. This early 60s stuff is just strange to me--perhaps because it brings back such an important phase of my life.
Then I went into Nordie's shoe department and it is just all wrong again. We didn't wear these exaggerated platforms and shapes and colors back then. We bought very simple yet classy looking pumps. Sigh.
One thing I've learned about fashion: This too will pass. I hope we do the 20s again soon. I love flapper dresses.
