BR and EF: A couple of K/R's

I ordered this "tee" from BR, and it wasn't anything like what I was expecting. And I think I kind of love it. It's more like a lightweight sweater. But I wanted to get your opinions on it before I decide... I am guilty of sometimes choosing things that are not very flattering on me. And this one has a LOT of volume, which isn't always my friend. Excuse the shoes... did my best with what isn't put away for the winter

And... I also got another EF drape dress off eBay for a really great price. It was a gamble, and I'm not sure it paid off. The colour is a lot more muted than I normally wear, and I know it's not my best. But is it good enough? I feel with make up, maybe I can get away with it. I was hoping for this to be a dress I could take to Hawaii with me, so for throwing on during the day over a bathing suit, or for evening dinners. It may not be a 10, but is it "JFE (in terms of colour)"?

Thoughts and opinions please!

The BR tee is a keeper for sure! Love the drape, particularly in pics 4, 5, 1 and 2.
I'm on the fence wrt the dress - I like the neckline on you, but it reads a bit staid if you plan to use if for a beach coverup. I'd be reaching for outfits 4 and 5. Have a great trip!

The more substantial fabric of the shirt is flattering, will probably wear better and longer than a traditional white t shirt, and looks more "dressed', so I like it, and I don't think the volume is a problem at all.
The fit and style of the dress is very flattering, and graceful, and I like the way you've presented it, with almost no accessorizing, but it would better in a more vivid/intense shade. I don't see the color standing up to bright beach light and it might look drab at night.

Love the cropped, fluid top. That is just perfect on you. I can see that becoming a workhorse because it goes with everything! I think the dress is great too. It looks like a cool, fluid piece for summer. The color is more rose than brown, right? I think it looks good on your complexion, FWIW. I would totally have worn that in Hawaii--perfect dinner dress for my sun burn!

Oooh... I had my eye on that BR top, though did not see it in the stores when I was there last week. I do like it but I wish that the sleeves were a little more fitted/slim. Personally, I like to have very fitted, slim sleeves when I am doing volume like this. It adds in structure - the structure is your arms. I guess however since it is elbow length your lower arm provides that structure. I would love to see this top with a high-waisted pencil skirt.

As for the dress, I would wear this in a heartbeat! It looks cool & comfy and the color is beautiful on you. The length is great too. My only nit, once again, is the sleeves: I'd wish it was sleeveless. But I have broad shoulders, so maybe that is just me.

The BR tee looks great, and is very fashionable. A keeper for sure. I like it best with #1 and #2 because the support act adds polish and structure to the tee.

I really, really like the top on you. The V neck offsets the boxiness beautifully.

I like the dress too and think the color is actually quite nice on you. It's very simple, but it looks like it would a comfortable but polished solution for your vacation, and versatile enough to be worn when you get back home too!

I own two of those dresses. I think you will definitely get your wear out of it. It is a throw and go piece for me. Add a chunky bracelet and go.

Oh, thank you so much for the feedback everyone! I'm so glad you like the tee, I was kind of amazed at how many bottoms it seemed to go with, so that is now folded and put away in my "spring" box. I"m glad the volume isn't too overwhelming.

And I think I will keep the dress. I know a more saturated, vibrant colour is better on me, but as long as this one works, it'll do what I need it to do. I have a black dress like this, so know how versatile and comfortable it is. Having one that isn't quite a 10 (and given what I paid for it) may make me wear it more in less than ideal conditions, and therfore enjoy it more, if that makes any sense. If I'd paid a "normal" price for it I'd be more tempted to save it for work, and not take it on vacation.

I like the tee a lot - it looks great on you and sounds like a wonderful fabric. The dress is a pretty color on you and I think for your purpose it also seems like a keeper.

Love the t, Elizabeth, and I think the dress is nice, too. I see you are keeping it. I can really see you getting lots of good use out of it. I'd wear it on vacations too - but that's really the most that I wear dresses, personally.

I like the tee. Keep. I can't tell how the colour of the dress is on the computer but if you only like it with make-up then would it be ok for you to wear over a swimsuit when you wouldn't wear make-up? I wear unflattering colours without make-up because I don't have the energy or time to bother but if it bothers you then that is something to consider.

It's hard to explain the hole I want the dress to fill. I don't want it to be so "nice" that I save it for work or special occasions... which my black one is. I do have summer dresses, but they are more fitted than this (ha, hard to believe something could be more fitted that this, huh? ), so not as "easy" or "throw on when it's hot". I will wear casual dresses for summer errands, soccer games, etc. But I also don't want it to be a colour that I feel and look blah in!

It may not end up being an actual swimsuit cover up, I guess I was just meaning I wanted something to wear anytime. ElleH, your point about wearing it with no makeup is a good one. I do tend to wear lipstick or gloss (which I'm wearing here) most of the time, if nothing else, but still.... And of course a tan will change things!

I want a super versatile, dress up or down, comfortable, summer dress. That I'm not afraid to wear.

I just had to chime back in because I could have written what you wrote about that dress. The price makes it less precious and more likely to get worn! So true in my experience! Glad you are keeping both! I was going to say that I wouldn't "ruin" it as a beach cover up unless you are at the pool at some fancy resort. I would wear it for lounging, dinner, lunch, sightseeing kind of stuff.

Suz if you are considering this top, you should order and try it. The fabric is lovely. It's 95% cotton, 5% cashmere. The cashmere gives it a wonderful drape Feels like a sweater rather than a tee, yet is not as heavy as a sweater.

And too bad you're not my size

The tee is great with 1-3. I like the dress, but my color sense on my monitor is so good.

Late to the party! I think the tee is a keeper. I have a Metalicus one very similar. I feel I can look a little big in it (due to the cut and the light colour) but I think with the right accompaniments it is fab. We are both large busted so that can add to how we feel in lighter tops, but I say JFE in a very good way. Keep. BTW, I don't think you look big in it... Im really just responding to your comment about voluminous items and am guessing you may feel as I do.

And I love the dress. That is the same as Shannon's?? I think it's flattering and by all reports, comfortable and easy to wear. In fact, I wish I could get my hands on one:)

Yes, this is the same dress as Shannon's - she has two. I also have it in black, which is why I'm prepared to accept a slightly less than "perfect" colour for it, I know how darn comfortable and easy to wear it is. Esp for the price I found this one at.
You should check out eBay - they are always on there, for varying prices. These things have your name all over them!

As I have skipped reading the other replies, I hope I am not repeating. I love the white top. The only combo that I don't favor is 2, with the black culottes, but then I shy away from black/white and high contrast looks. The dress is nice - very nice!, and as you say your look would be brightened by more makeup. My first thought was jewelry and I realize you don't wear much. But bigger and glittery earrings might bring a bit of shine, or a mixed metal bracelet.

Glad you decded to keep both! I like the drapiness and versatility of both pieces; they are very flattering on you. I could see pretty metallic sandals with the dress.

Is the tee the linen tee from BR? Might you be able to attach a link? (I have a wardrobe hole for a nice white tee.)

Oh, and I had a lightbulb moment reading Angie's comment about the support act adding polish and structure to the tee. I'm going to think about that next time I reach for a tee.

chj, I actually DO wear jewellery, I love it :). Just not wearing any here as it was a storm day and I took advantage of a few free moments to try these things on and get photos. Full styling for photos is too much work for me! So yes, I would almost definitely wear earrings with this. And/or a chunky bracelet.

And Windchime, my silver sandals will definitely be coming out :). And my apologies, I thought I'd attached the find to my initial post. I'll add it here, and also in the OP if I can. It's not the BR linen tee, it's the cotton cashmere vee pullover. But, I did also pick up the Heritage pieced linen crew, and that is a definite keeper. I can get a pic of me in that if you'd like to see it on a non-model body.

Awesome, Elizabeth P; thanks for attaching the Finds! I'd be interested in seeing a real-life pic of the Heritage linen crew; I've read such accolades about linen tees on YLF and not yet tried one on.

Windchime, I'll do that tonight. I also got the black one below, which comes in a bunch of colours. i looked at the white, but it seemed very thin. Had that really slubby linen look.
