This is a bit off-topic as far as fashion goes, so Angie and Greg, feel free to shift it to the Off Topic category.

Long ago, my gym gear used to consist of large, baggy t-shirts and loose jogging pants. When I started lifting free weights, however, I discovered how impractical the loose clothing was. I now understand why Crossfit women wear tight bottoms and tops, and, in the absence of air-conditioning, why they prefer shorts. Also, for commuters, the difference between packing pants vs shorts can be significant when your space is already limited.

For the past few weeks, I've been working out at a gym where all the female lifters wear "booty" shorts, which also seems to be the female Crossfit uniform. In general, I've only seen slim and fit-looking women wear these shorts, both at this gym, and others.

Do booty shorts strike you as immodest in a gym or inappropriate for bodies that don't look fit? Do you consider it to be a form of empowerment for women who wear them, who, through lifting, become confident as a result of their strength?; practical, because of the explosive movement and not temperatures?; or simply TMI? No opinion is also an option.
