Bootie Wearers: recommendations for a snug ankle fit?

Oh dear -- I'm worried that the bootie craze will produce another "I can't find boots to fit my calves" dilemma, regarding ankle fit.

Those of you from the petite bootie-wearers thread who have nailed this close ankle fit, can you suggest brands and styles that work for a smaller ankle?

ETA: I don't require them to be form-fitting, would just like to avoid looking like I'm standing in a hole.

I have a pair of Fluevogs that hug the ankle nicely.

Also, not a brand recommendation per se, but styles that lace up definitely give you a little more ability to tighten up the ankle fit, and they're usually cut narrower at the ankle. I have a pair of Doc Martens that work really well because of that.

Another lace-up recommendation. I have tried on quite a few pairs and the ones with laces seem best. For me, it is about more the esthetics. If the ankle is loose it has a tendency to rub the front of my leg and become uncomfortable within minutes.

I also search for video reviews of boots I am considering and see how they fit on the model. That is usually very telling in terms of the width and height of the bootie.

For me, a slightly higher shaft is a lot better, like if they cover up my entire ankle bone. Even if the opening is wider, it does not look overly large when it is higher up for some reason. Like the others have said, lace-ups are also a good idea.

I'm wearing Aquatalia's today and love them! I prefer booties that do not gape at the ankle. I have 2 pair:

Meant to add that Aquatalia's are pricey, especially at full price. But the comfort and fit are totally worth it! Try looking online at Amazon, 6pm.com etc. for deals...

Thanks, Sunita -- yes, I adore my Aquatalia knee-high boots, and yes, they were expensive even on sale. The ones you posted are gorgeous -- but too high for me.

Angie -- the YLF store? You mean there's a YLF store?

Yes, I love the Sam Edelmans currently in the store (low heels) and my size is available in the snazzy animal print. If I'm going to try wearing them with skirts, though, I think I need a leg-lengthening black since I would be wearing black tights.

Dianthus and Diana -- I do have two pairs of lace-up flat ankle booties. I only wear them under pants because even when laced as small as they'll go, they give me the standing-in-a-hole effect.

Actually, looking back at Angie's post with all those photos, many of the booties on the models are not close-fitting at the ankle. Is that one of those things models can get away with because they're, well, models? Or is it also fine to wear them that way?

I think that it's become perfectly acceptable to wear booties that are roomy at the ankle, despite any standing-in-a-bucket perceptions. I'm not quite into that roomy of a look for myself but I see lots of fashionable ladies sporting it, and not just models.

I have average-width calves but very small feet and ankles, so I am very concerned with bootie openings. I have a pair of Aerosoles booties that Angie recommended last year, the Playlist, which I think was re-released this year under a slightly different name and in different colors. The opening is clearly loose, but it works because of the cut in sides.
