Bootie saga (feel your pain, Mo & Diana, question for Cathy & others)

I really want two things:

1. a rugged, RATE pair of cut-out booties, and
2. a more refined heeled pair if possible

I have been following Diana's and Mo's bootie quests with great interest.

For the RATE (make that "flat RATE") spot, I'm thinking about the JC Everly, and went back to look at Cathy's thread on hers: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ell-everly

Cathy, it looks like there is a fair amount of space between your heel and the back of the bootie, raising my prior question: is this kind of space fine in the fit of a cut-out bootie? Has it caused any problems for you?

For the heeled spot, does anyone have suggestions? They have to be unbelievably comfortable and accommodate really small ankles. These are the ones I returned: http://www.zappos.com/gentle-souls-osaka-mia-black I just couldn't get past the flat, stubby toe, but that cutout in the front provided fantastic ankle fit and they were comfortable.

Agree, Mo -- less heel (I consider up to two inches to be more or less "flat" as long as the sole has some depth to it) and less Bitcoin.

I have also wondered about a shoe that chooses to expose only one thing and it's -- the heel.

The heel? The part of your foot most likely to scrape against stair risers, rub against the floor mats while driving, and show unsightly cracking? Hmm.

I had my eye on these but i wanted something a little tougher looking. Still, though, the back of these is like a regular shoe so the back heel gap might not be as bad.

April, for the heeled bootie, have you tried Rockport? I have these and find them quite comfortable, and they are cut nice and low in the front:

If you like the front cutout, the Ara Tala might work for you. I have these in the silver snake print and find them sliiiightly narrow in the toebox, but my feet are a tad wide there. They have an almond, almost pointy toe.

Thanks, Diana, Emily, and carambola! Here are my thoughts.

@Diana, that might work, though like you I was hoping for a little more toughness that would still be visible in pants. They're plenty tough for skirts, though. Definitely worth considering.

@Emily, I may have overpromised when I used the term "heels". I think this is way more heel than I could manage (foot problems and some health issues). So gorgeous, though. <sigh> I have a pair of Rockport Seven to 7 wedge booties in suede that I really like, but they're a lot lower than these and, of course, wedges.

@carambola -- that's a possibility (in fact, it looks like the Gentle Souls, minus the stubby toe) but toe narrowness scares me. I don't have a wide foot but have a serious bunion on one foot that does not like a narrow-toed heel. I wonder if I could stretch these. How is the cushioning?
