I realized this week that the reality of my life is that I cannot wear heels that most women consider "low" and "comfortable," 2 inches is too high for me. I tried wearing a pair this week and balls of my feet felt like someone lit them on fire.

This poses a problem: I genuinely think booties look better with heels. Even a tiny one. But the ones I'm finding with tiny heels look a) dowdy, b) too classic, or c) old. I liked the Nine West Cleeos that Angie posted, but I'm not too enthused about them for myself, especially at the price. They're too pretty I guess. I am looking for something funky but not overly pretty and not overly rugged. A funky wedge boot seems perfect.

These look perfect but the description says 1.5-2 inches. Do they not realize how unhelpful that is? a half an inch in heel height makes a huge difference in comfort. Anyway, they look like 2" or possibly even more to me, so I think they're out.

These are probably perfect, but I don't know. Somehow I just don't think they look as nice. The wedge starts looking less funky and more dumpy at that height.

I know I cant be picky with all of my issues...and yet I am. I hate spending money on things I don't love because of my limitations with fit or comfort.

But am unsure of those grommets and the syntheticness. The only brand I usually have luck with as far as synthetics go is Blowfish, and all of their heels are just a hair too high this season.

These are kind of cute too, but the fabric leaves me cold.

Should I get a grip on reality and just get one of these options or wait it out? Temperatures are dropping and I need to decide soon...

The last two links are the same. I agree the first ones are over 2 inches.

I like the Aldo ones- they don't look dumpy to me. i think you should order as many as you can and try them all on.

The second (shorter) Aldos have the snap and I think that adds interest that may make up for the low heels. . .

I think the Madden ones have the most interesting look, and their heel is only 1.5".

I haven't liked the fit of BC shoes that I have tried on (option #4).

Chewy is right in buying what you are interested in and trying them in person to see how they feel. The smallest thing can make a world of difference in fit and confirt :-\

I would love to see some below 2" heel booties! I agree that booties look better with a heel, but if I'm going to get any regular use out of them mine need to have a low heel I've ordered these ones to try on: http://www.zappos.com/gabriell.....odPage2a:0 but I'm not wild about them yet (and they have a 1.5" hidden heel).

I agree with all your assessments, Maya. The first ones are really the best but the heel looks to be at least 2 inches. Having said that, some heels put a lot more pressure on the balls of your feet than others. Aerosoles for me is good at avoiding this but spoil it by making their heels so darn loud. I had great luck with their wedges though. Actually, I like the ones Kate linked to.

Maya I literally feel your pain on the burning feet issue mine are feeling the same today!!! I was also having the same thoughts about boots I'll watch this thread with interest x

You might want to try some Naturalizer booties. I don't wear heels very often because of the ball of the foot thing you described. Most shoes and boots place you squarely on the ball of your foot and you have to walk around like that and of course you start to feel like you foot is on fire...

I find the Naturalizer boots and shbooties have a heel that seems better placed (for some unknown reason, could it be the type of foot I have? I have very high arches) and therefore are extremely comfortable and stable feeling to me. I can wear them for hours, with about a 2.5 inch heel.

Keep trying Maya, the right fit is out there...

And I like the 2nd last option you posted the best.

I like the Madden best out of the choices posted. Do you sit at work all day? I know it’s common for people to have a shoe rack at their desk for shoes and wear comfy one’s for commuting purposes. This way they don't have to carry shoes back and forth everyday.

Otherwise, I say to keep searching until a comfortable, low heel pair catches your eye. If you buy something you don’t love or aren’t comfy in, you won’t wear them. Too often I’ve purchased shoes for the “in a pinch because I can’t find what I really want-need-is really comfy” moments and it is always wasted money for me.

Maya, you've put your finger on why I'm not getting booties to work...the ones that look good have too high a heel for comfort. I suspect I need the heel because I'm too short for flat booties to look right with skirts. If you don't love it, don't settle. Either what you really want will turn up and you've already spent the money or it will sit in the closet because it doesn't feel fab.

Oh, and I like Kate's suggestion as well. Maybe it's the color that makes them less frumpy looking than if they were black? Just a thought...

Not much help here, but I sympathize. I haven't started the search yet myself, but I'll be looking for the same thing -- no more than 1 1/2 inches if they're going to be a regular feature for me. In my case my feet are totally fine with higher, but my knees hurt and feel weak after a while with higher. I'll be watching this thread closely!

Are you really set against flat ones Maya? I love the flat booties I got in HK last year. I have gotten a lot of wear out of them with both black and patterned tights. They are super comfy, and no sore feet even after a 15hr day on foot at work. Flat shoes rock!

Have you tried the Nine West Cleeo's? I don't actually think you can pass judgment until you try them on with outfits. You have dismissed things too quickly in the past when they have ended up working! Also, we are back to the Nine West pair of booties from the NAS which you passed on - the ones I recommended. They look like the BC booties you posted and I'm willing to bet that they were more comfortable

I will keep an open mind Angie. I didn't like the Giannes though I tried and tried for weeks before returning but just couldn't get into them.

I will give the Cleeos a try, but might have to wait for a sale/promo to come along.

Are these cute and not grannyish? I don't usually associate stylish footwear with Rieker so I'm just blinded by my dislike of the brand. I'm sure if these were made by Gabriella Rocha or another brand I associate with cute footwear I wouldn't have this sense of disbelief...

I agree Reiker are not usually know for being stylish but those are great I may be hunting them down myself if they prove comfy x

They *are* "grannyish," but that's the style of them, right? They're grannyish but not at all dowdy -- vintage and retro. And they could never look truly grannyish with a Maya outfit, too much funk and spunk involved. Give them a try; I could really see these working with your style.
