For “violating community standards”. Has this happened to any of you? I requested a review and assume I’ll be back soon. There is also an option to download my information. I haven’t done that yet, because I don’t have much room on my phone, and idk what/how much info it’d be.

If you have any experience with this, I’d appreciate hearing from you!

I have no idea what it was. I’m outspoken that I think our country has serious problems, but also insist on staying on topic, not making fun of someone for being dumb, fat & crude or laughing at his jokes about women or people who stutter or underdeveloped places or whatnot.

So there are a couple trumpians in my hometown who are angry with me. One recently came at me full-on blustering about how stupid I am, a zillion ad hominem & no logic. I legit thought it was my grade school classmate’s kid. Turned out it was her husband. He said they had raised their kids to be respectful. I said kids usually go by what they see us do rather than by what we say. He didn’t anything more, but I doubt he’s happy with me. Then there’s the girl from down the hill who recently posted an amazing defense of trump. Amazing as in baffling. I went through several of the points—Problem isn’t that too little wall has been built, but that the idea is xenophobic, ignorant of demographic patterns, and has been done in an environmentally destructive manner. & so on. She took it down, but probably isn’t happy with me either. Either of them may have reported me.

Another possibility is that my account was hijacked—FB is asking me to upload an ID. I’d rather not.

That's weird - I would think that someone randomly reporting someone else would not be enough to shut an ID down. Definitely possible that someone hacked your account ... are you dealing with an actual person, or just forms ... can you ask them what the offense was? You would think they would provide some evidence? Good luck sorting out. You could just watch the Social Dilemma and then you probably won't want the account anyway

Toronto, I’ve been saying I need to spend less time on there, but I didn’t mean so suddenly and completely! I think the “request a review” thing I clicked is supposed to tell me what’s up. Hope so anyway.

I was in the middle of getting a friend’s recipe for homemade pb cups to make for my kid’s bday tomorrow when I got kicked. That immediate concern has been resolved—there are many similar recipes online. But there are also people either from long ago or who I’ve never met that I don’t want to lose contact with.

So far, being off the ‘book has not led to skyrocketing productivity, but if we can get this guy through the Covid screens to visit, I’ve planned out a weeks worth of activities and outfits, down to the perfect accessories and lingerie for each, lol. There are so many ways to waste time online!

How infuriating. That's just rotten.

I have successfully avoided FB for two weeks. I really despise it for a lot of reasons (and you've now given me another!), but I've also come to rely on it the way you described--being in touch with people, some of whom I haven't actually met. I miss my groups on it and do plan to go back at some point and catch up with what's going on in some of them (bicycling, sewing, swimming, and other communities). Despite my ambivalence about the platform, I would be very angry if I were summarily kicked off of it.

Firecracker, I much appreciate the empathy! Turns out I could get back on if I upload my ID. I’m leery of doing that, and in any event I was spending way too much time on it before. There are habits I want to cultivate before reconnecting there. There is (or was) an option to download my info. If I can clear up space on my hard drive, I might do that.

Is it possible there was some kind of activity associated your account, having nothing to do with you or your content, that seemed fraudulent?

In which case it might be more random than targeted, you might even be part of a large pool receiving the same request.

Phoebe, that would explain why they want an ID (sort of—but they never had one to begin with). Doesn’t really explain the non-adherence to community standards, which was the first reason given

I wonder the same thing as Phoebe. Typically, if someone reports you on FB (with good cause or not), you just end up in FB jail for a week or two. It sounds like something else is up.

I have a love/hate relationship with FB. I love sharing my work and keeping in touch with a wide network of friends, family, clients, and fellow artists. I learn about opportunities and events and use it a lot to connect with people. But there is a lot of crap out there too. I unfollow or block people who post offensive or stupid stuff. I’ve been a little hurt that a 45-loving cousin and acquaintance have recently apparently unfriended me after reading of my political beliefs, but we didn’t have much of a relationship anyway. No big loss. I know that when FB starts to make me feel bad, it’s time to step away for a while.

I hope you get your issue solved.

When you were notified that you were removed, was it within the Facebook platform? Or was it via email? I wonder if you clicked a phishing email and unknowingly gave someone access to your FB account. If that is the case, report it as a phishing scam; FB can investigate for you.

I would not upload an ID. I have no fact-based evidence in saying this, but providing any additional personal information, all-around feels like a bad idea, when we're talking about a platform that routinely violates our privacies, then says "oops, sorry", and pays a fine after they're caught.

What I would do is make them review it, and definitely change your password.

Hmm. Interesting. Usually so-called conservatives are the ones who get kicked off. And Janet is right about FB jail. Sounds like your account may have been hacked.

I hate FB. I almost never log on and I’m still convinced they’re tracking me. They have always been too invasive, taking personal information without asking. I once was doing some online browsing and they posted every item I looked at to my timeline. My uncle messaged me and asked me if I was moving or something, that’s how I found out they were doing that.
