Boot Shortening in DC?

Hello ladies!
I've been missing off the forums for quite some time....super strict work dress code has sapped the fun from dressing.
Anyway, I did get an awesome pair of Doc 20 eyelet boots recently, but as a shorty they need to be shortened.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good cobbler in the NOVA/MD/DC area? I have wanted these boots for a long time, and I know losing just an inch in shaft height will make all the difference.

There must be a Nordstrom in the area you could ask? If that is information they give out. When I had my personal shopper appointment recently the stylist mentioned that they have a very skilled cobbler they work with.

On Nordie's recommendation, I wound up going around the Beltway and speaking with a seriously cool cobbler named Dragan. My boots will be ready on Thursday!!

Oh, I missed this thread earlier, but that is good to know. We have a decent cobbler and leather repair guy in Annapolis, but there are some jobs he won't take on. I hope the Docs work perfectly for you after the alteration!

JG, I used the Cobbler's Bench. I think the overall owner is named Joe Stern, of Stern Shoe Repair Company and DC Leather and Finding Company. His direct email is joesme@me.com and he was completely wonderful to work with. The Cobbler's Bench has many locations, but I was referred to Dragan at Landover for this specific project. He is supposedly a "wizard" with leather.
I'll pick up my boots and report back with pictures this weekend.

Good to know from another NOVA YLFer. I've only used Red Wing shoes for heel cutting down and tap replacements.

Thanks so much for the info. I need mostly minor repairs or adjustments, but they're to well-loved items that I don't want to trust to someone I've picked out at random.

I never even thought of that solution! I bought 20 hole Docs ten years ago and only wore them twice because the shaft was too high. I sold them for a reasonable price, but I wish I'd known I could get them shortened.
