Boot lust... again. But why can't anyone measure a heel?

I'm kind of in love with these Dr. Martens. I wanted to start transitioning to a higher casual heel this Fall (recently tried 2.5 inchers with my jeans, and they were way more flattering!), so I'm drooling like crazy now... but the heel height is listed as everything from 2-4 inches! WTH? What height do they look like to you guys? Should I even bother with this?

They look ~ 2.5 inch heel once you account for the platform. Maybe that's why you found such different measurements, b/c it depends on whether they reflect the platform. Also, I think heel measurements differ based on shoe size.

ETA: I looked at some other pictures of the boots on another site, and I think they are more a 3" heel after accounting for the platform. But take my assessment with a grain of salt ~ I don't have a great eye for this kind of thing.

I've learned the hard way that heel heights can be very deceiving in pictures. You could try doing a search for the Doc Martin's on other sites and see if someone else gives a more specific description of the height.

If you've done your due diligence to try to figure out the heel height, I wouldn't feel bad about ordering it from endless to try it on in-person; they have free shipping *and* build the shipping costs into their pricing model, so everybody wins.

Of course, you'll have to be careful that you don't let yourself slip into the "well, it's here already ... might as well keep it!" mentality. For that reason, I would focus on ensuring these boots fill a genuine wardrobe hole before pulling the trigger on endless (or, really, any boot purchase).

( incidentally, I find zappos's heel height measurements a bit more reliable than endless's. not sure why )

Thanks for the help, everyone. Unfortunately every site lists the measurement differently, and Zappos doesn't seem to carry them. D'oh! I guess ordering is the only way to go here, unless I can find them in a store somewhere.

Heather, I was thinking of utilitarian black, since my current black combat boots are GI and not very comfy at all despite being broken in. The soles are very flat and very hard. >:(

These look like 3-3.5" to me

EDIT: This guess includes the platform height, so from the ground to the top it looks like 3-3.5" to me.

Rae, these are hot. I find heel and calf measurements wildly all over the place, and often how the heel feels depends so much on the whole shoe. Try 'em and see - they are beyond fab!

The platform looks like about .5-.75 in, and the heel looks like 3-3.5 to me. So anywhere from 2.5-3 in. total.

Hm, maybe the platform is what's causing all the discrepancy. I only care about total elevation off the floor, so that I know if my jeans will be too short for them. Maybe I can ask an Ebay seller to measure, and I will see if I can contact Endless as well. Thanks for the idea, BM!

Had an actual person measure for me, and they said the heel was 3". CC rewards came up from a card I forgot about, plus Shoebuy had a 20% off sale, plus they gave an extra 10% for registering on their site... so if these work, I'll have paid $43.00... nice! I only wish they'd had both sizes, since I'm a half size and these only come in whole. Oh well, free return shipping, and if I have to return maybe by that time someone else will have a deal on 'em.
