Boho faux-wrap dress from Anthro

After Dixie posted this dress (which looks terrific on her), I kept an eye on it on the Anthro website. It went out of stock, on sale, then back in stock...but only in some sizes. When one appeared in a 6, I decided to jump on it and try it. It arrived today, and I'd like your feedback.

I'm undecided. I am having the Helmut Lang dress altered, so I have bought that dress (a completely different vibe, and one I'm feeling more at the moment), and the high-low-hem maxi from Anthro this year (which I think covers the more romantic/boho vibe pretty well). I've gotten rid of a few old summer dresses (or relegated some to beach/pool coverup status). But I only need so many dresses for summer, you know? So I'm being very choosy.

I like the cut -- it seems pretty conventionally flattering. It is just a smidge snug in the waist, but fits well everywhere else. This is the only size left now -- no 8's avaialbe. I'm wondering if maybe it's a little too boho for my current preferences. I dunno, what do you all think?

Pardon the wet hair and no makeup -- at least I threw on a pair of sandals.

The dress fits and flatters but for some reason doesn't look like your style. You have and will find better dresses.

I want the sandals! I like the dress, and the colors are awesome on you, but I'm just not sure about it. Not sophisticated enough, maybe ?

I'm not loving it on you, Janet. I feel the top is a bit skimpy in proportion to the amount of fabric on the bottom... which has the end result of making you look a bit bottom heavy. Which you aren't. But I know it's your "thing".

I think it's great on you but there's something about the dividing line of the pattern. And the bulk of fabric on the bottom.

You've already decided, but I agree. It isn't bad, but it isn't great. I'm having this reaction to most of Anthro lately actually...this feeling that I should like it, but I just don't.

Peri, I hear you about Anthro that way! I seem to go hot or cold on them. I hit a little hot streak with two successful pairs of pants, a top, and a dress, but I think I'm done now.

Good decision on the dress. But seriously...those sandals? What are they?

I agree with the others--looks good on you, but I liked the other Anthro dress so much better on you. And the Helmut Lang, for a totally different feel.

The sandals are from Splendid from 2013. I'll see if I can find them online and post a link. I think CocoLion has them too, in another color.

ETA: It looks like they're not easy to find anymore. I think they were called Evanston. Here's a link to the red version on eBay in a 7.5. I think they were pretty TTS -- mine are an 8, which is what I take 80-90% of the time.

Yeah flattering but not you. Plus it's really weird with your current hair. Like you went home to visit family and didn't pack the right things and had to borrow something, see "Home for the Holidays" and the puffy coat.

LOL Anna, you have a point. Yeah, I need to keep the boho touches more subtle these days to feel like me. Funny, I used to do it a lot more. I need to keep this in mind as I do a little closet editing -- you've articulated the issue I had with a couple of old dresses that I have now put in the "sell" pile. They fit, and were flattering enough in a conventional sense, but they felt off somehow. I think they're all styles that I'm leaving behind. I got use out of them, for the most part, so no big losses, but it was bugging me that they seemed OK and yet weren't making me want to wear them. Thank you for helping me figure out WHY.

I'm glad this dress isn't staying Janet. Although you'd look gorgeous in a potato sack, there's something about the two patterns on the front that makes this look apron-like.

I've been waiting for your review! And I really like it! I think it looks great on you! Summery and fresh. I don't see what everyone else is saying, about bottom heaviness or lack of sophistication. Maybe I'm biased because I love that dress. I posted a picture of mine wearing the dress in another forum and some people said I should burn it, lol. Or that it looks like I just got off the boat from India (¿?). So, I think it isn't everybody's cup of tea, but I love it on you. If you like it, it is you. But if you don't feel confortable in it, then don't keep it.

I think you've made the right decision. You know I love all the deep indigo shades on you, but something about this dress--maybe the rayon fabric?--borders on drab. I keep thinking about Sophia Loren in one of her less glamorous roles as an exhausted Italian housewife . . . so, wrong dress, but hey, still Sophia Loren!

Yes I have those same sandals but in the red color, I recognized them right away. Yours are in excellent condition, mine are so beat up but I can't get myself to get rid of them!

Almost". Trying is the way to find out. I've had several Anthro dresses in my cart but think probably won't fit here or there, so can't pull the trigger.

Dixie, I love this dress on you -- it's what prompted me to try it! I agree that it's almost but not quite right for me. The fact that I'm a lot older than you may have something to do with it (this style would have felt much more me ten years ago), but I suspect it's mainly a style thing. I appreciate all the feedback!

Like the others have said, the colors and cut look great on you, but it doesn't look like a Janet dress. But the sandals are pretty fantastic.

I think Anna has such a good point about how this style plays with your new haircut, Janet. I really loved the dress on Dixie, too, and I recall that her hairstyle is much more harmonious with it.

I'm late. My thought was the dress would need more relaxed hair and shoes. Anyways, agree flattering but not you for some reason.
