I went to the mall last night to exchange the wrong-sized jeans I had bought hubby for Christmas. I popped by the Fossil belt section at The Bay to check out Angie's belt pick and was dismayed to find that the large size did not quite fit over my ample waist/hips.
I guess I had an upset look on my face because another customer, a very stylish young lady somewhere between 20-24 asked me if I was ok. I made a comment that the belt was too small and I wish they had a larger size for us chunky ladies. This sweet young thing promptly said I shouldn't talk about myself that way. She then went on to say that she didn't see my weight or size when she looked at me but rather saw someone who cared enough about themselves to dress well, was stylish and just the right amount of trendy and then she asked me where I found my fisherman knit sweater because she absolutely loved it.
I got tears in my eyes and told her she had no idea how her kind comments touched my heart and then she hugged me and wished me a Happy Near Year and off she went.
I've got a whole new attitude today as a result. And she's right - I do care enough about myself.
