Boden Velvet Suit - what do we think?

So I bought these pants even before Angie recommended them, part of my yellow trend. I wasn’t even going to try the jacket, because I thought the shoulders would be too tight (but gave it a try as Angie said it has a lot of stretch.) The shoulders are fine I think (am wearing just a silk cami here, but any light top without elaborate sleeves would be fine.) I do think however that the biggest fit issue is that the jacket is cut for someone more well-endowed.

I agree with you about the jacket. I bought the wine coloured one and thought the same thing. In the end I decided it was ok with movement and with layers (I would layer a knit underneath mine). It may be the same for you. In the first photo it looks too big, but in the last photos it looks great. So it’s hard to tell.
The pants look great.

The color is amazing on you, and you look so happy it in it. Love the fit of the pants, but can’t quite tell on the jacket.

Love the colour and the fit of the pants; a little unsure about the jacket fit. In some shots it looks too roomy through the front, but in others it seems ok. Great with that cami and those shoes though .

In pic 4, open, the jacket looks fine, but in the others, I agree, if looks much too large in the bust. Could you size down? Any chance it could be tailored? The color is divine on you, and the pants are great, so I feel like it’s worth it to make the suit work.

I will be honest and say in my opinion the pants are a great fit but sadly the jacket is not....altering might be possible though.

(WOOHOOO. We might be mustard velvet suit twins. My pants are being altered at the waist and hips, and I'm waiting for the jacket).

IMPORTANT: Velvet photographs badly. The light dances on the fabric and makes it look less smooth than it is.

Blazer is tricky. In #1 the armholes look snug. In #2 the blazer looks better buttoned up. Yes, it could do with a little more filling out at the bust - but it's not bad, and quite alterable.

Really pretty with the cami underneath.

Wow, what a gorgeous suit. You HAVE to keep the pants -- they look amazing on you. I see the issue with the bust -- same problem I often have. To get the fit in the shoulders I end up with too much fabric in front. Even my new consigned Pink Tartan shows a bit of that issue. But try with some different tops to see. It's soooooo tempting.

Angie, do you think it would be a fairly simple alteration? I have the same issue. I thought too that, being cotton, the jacket might stretch and mould to my shape more over time (a bit like denim). But I will look into alterations next year if it bothers me.

Lisa, if it bothers you I think it would be worth getting a quote on the alterations before you decide to send it back. It would be so nice to be able to wear the pants as a suit. I don’t have buyer’s regret because the chances of getting a cotton velvet, lined jacket of this quality here for less than $200 are pretty close to zero. So I will spring for the alterations if necessary next year.

The pants are perfect on you. Not sure about the blazer though — the fit seems off, and I wonder if it’s an issue that is easy to alter.

It’s an amazing colour. You know, the jacket fit doesn’t look that different from the models online. I think it all depends on how relaxed a look you’re willing to go with.

What a great suit Ive been tempted to lemming it too! I say keep and see about altering the jacket, or pair with a thicker top to see if that helps.

Really gorgeous on you! Love the colour more than in the stock photos. As others have said, would you consider a sweater or something more substantial under the blazer? I often find jackets don't hang right on me with just a cami or tank underneath, especially ones designed for F/W. Makes them a bit harder to dress up, but good for everyday wear.

Brooklyn, the blazer fits quite well! It's quite an easy dart suppression if you're prepared to pay for the alteration. Or just leave it. Not a train smash at all. Your favourite colour

Brooklyn, that jacket is wonderful. I had the mulled wine color in my cart last night at Boden, and waffled. Now to decide to wait for another sale, or just to go for it!

What a fabulous, fun suit! Mustard makes me look like a condiment, but it is quite flattering on you, and it seems fresh and, well.....spicy, after being out of the stores for the last few years.

As for the fit.......now I'm tempted to scrape together some funds for the jacket. I have the opposite problem: jakckets that don't accommodate a bust!

Wow, love the mustard suit on you! Blazer looks a tad big but not a dealbreaker, you should see if can be altered with those darts suppressions:-). Loved the wine on you Brooklyn, too!
