Boden Sustainability

I wanted to share this, since I know a lot of us here are Boden shoppers and many are also trying to shop more ethically/sustainably.

I generally feel pretty good about buying from Boden because their pieces last SO LONG in my closet. Buying from them feels sustainable just because of their quality and longevity. However, I did some research and found this statement from them about their short- and long-term plans for environmental and social responsibility.

They’re not all the way there yet, but I feel even better seeing this commitment.

Jenn, I hope we see more and more retailers moving in this direction. As you say, any progress is positive, even though there may be a long way to go.

Consumer pressure is what will change business practices so if this makes people more likely to order from them hurrah and let other businesses take note.

I know a little about this space, and I think it's accurate that we can speak with our dollars/pounds/euros on this issue. Some companies are ahead of the curve on realizing this, and I'm glad Boden is one of them.

These companies have really complex supply chains, and generally, the bigger the company, the more complex the chain. I hope we get to a point sooner rather than later where every company has a statement like this available to the public, and is actively working to do better. I like to know that they're thinking about it, because as a consumer, I definitely am.

It’s a nice statement with all the right buzzwords. I generally prefer third party info for this kind of thing. Too many times have companies said “oh no, we had no idea that was happening (somewhere along the supply chain)!”
