Boden convert

I know Boden is a strong front-runner in the fashion world, but I didn't really like it. Great whimsy, but it seemed somehow too correct, too on trend...smugly carefree.

I can't remember what took me to the web site today, but I looked through for a few minutes, and boy, would it work well for me! Nice colors, of course great patterns, and I have a hunch that if I put the clothing on my body it would match my personality well. I see, too, a strong Sixties influence, which I have a fondness for.

Came across this article today as well, NYT. About a new shop in Paris specializing in Easter egg-colored clothing...while we are talking about brights.

Biden quality is certainly top notch and I added many pieces maybe a decade ago? But not in awhile. Not sure why. I’ll go take a peek!

As AndiB says, Boden quality is great. One thing I will say, if you are thinking of trying the brand, IMO sizing is smaller than American brands, so use there size chart if ordering direct. If buying in the 2nd hand/pre loved market, I’d size up at least 1 size. Again just my opinion. But yes, very colorful and with an interesting mix of whimsy and preppie.

I think they use UK sizing, so an 8 is a 12. Go with the size charts. Angie might know for sure.

I love browsing their styles and have.a definitive look. I can usually recognize Boden right away based on color/print and tailoring. They do have US equivalent sizing - which is pretty true to size. Their shoulder fits are on the narrow side in my experience.

I’m a Boden fan. They put both UK and US sizing on their labels. But sometimes a retailer will list the wrong one as the US size. Nordstrom and RueLaLa US web sites have both done this. So don’t buy anything non returnable, or second hand without seeing the actual tag.

I like their trousers, skirts, sweaters and tees. They fit my wide shoulders and provide enough room for my hips. I don’t buy dresses from them as their cut is short waisted. I have never tried their blazers or jeans. I am particularly fond of their linen blend knit tees for summer. They are apparently indestructible and don’t get wrinkly.

I love the crazy loud coats on their website, such as in the picture. I bought a dress once and as Cat2 warned, it was too small. I also have a poncho from them. It’s surprisingly subdued, color-wise, but beautiful quality.

Big Boden fan here but yes be careful with sizing. Even apart from the UK/US size issue, I've encountered the usual variation across styles as to how their pants fit. I have better luck with tops - tees, shirts, sweaters, blazers - of which I have rather a large number …

Oh yeah, to the pant cut point they do have styles with slim cuts. I just give those a pass entirely because I know they will look dreadful on me. But I do the same thing with every retailer; really paying attention to how each style is cut. On the colors, I can usually find a warm color I like every season. My current pants and skirts have nail polish like color names but are basically tan, clay and army green.

I’m always tempted by Boden but in my experience, like Kelly’s, the shoulders usually are cut too narrow for me.

I love the look of so much of their stuff. It’s difficult to get here- you can order it from international sites but in our dollars it’s expensive. I find if Angie writes an article with lots of Finds the ones I click on are often Boden. That’s OK, hopefully one day I might be in the UK or US and can actually enter a store!
Slightly whimsical clothing I feel. Not quite sure why it appeals to me so much.

Carol, personally, I've been shopping regularly at Boden for a decade. One of my favourite British brands! They are a STELLAR company for a hundred reasons. Impeccable customer service, and of all the retailers - they hit just the right note during the pandemic. I would love to work for them - and Ralph Lauren (Alas, I do not live in London or NYC where their head offices are).

I have 10 year old knitwear from Boden that has not pilled, and looks perfect! I can always find a colour and a pattern I love in Boden items. They fit and are wearable, as well as affordable. Fantastic quality. They launder well too. They have great sales.

They frequently do navy instead of black, which is my preference. And my favourite patterns: stripes, checks and dots and always available. Doggie patterns too, sometimes.

I do not find that they run small. TTS, IMO. Hop onto the US Boden site to get US sizing. They have a depot in New Jersey so shipping is usually easy. The UK Boden site has British sizing. The two are very different.

These are the Boden items currently in my wardrobe. It spans 10 years of buying something every season from the brand. Boden is always worth a look!
