Boden and other K/R try ons

Hi - I have really been trying on a lot of stuff lately. I am most in need of summer things, since I live in a hot climate. Topping my wish list are:

1) short sleeve cotton tees and other short sleeve tops
2) short sleeve knee length easy dresses that don't look too much like nightgowns
3) shorts/crops/skirts besides denim that will work for heat that can withstand cat hair

The first items are from Boden. I took a look after Inge suggested the yellow top, but that's the only item that hasn't arrived yet. Navy dot dress is cotton and is in a tall. I'm kinda meh on this. Strawberry colored cotton dress is also a tall. This one comes closer to my knees. It feels cool, and I am keeping it whether you guys like it or not

MY favourite pieces for you / on you are the navy dress and the TH print navy t. The strawberry candy coloured pieces are not doing it for me because of the colour, I think. I'm ambivalent on the camo coloured pants but can't explain why. I have seen them in person too, and they are cool - maybe it's the top you have styled them with. I think they need a top with a stronger contrast. White shorts look like they fit well, but now I can't go back and check that pic again without losing my reply here

Lisap - so what you're saying is you like me in navy? Ha ha. I've ignored my telling myself not to get more navy. It's a strong color in my wardrobe for sure. In looking back through the pics, I am not sure the strawberry dress shows as well as it feels. As for the navy dress, I just wish I could add a couple inches to the hem. It's not that I don't like my legs, but I've found the shorter tee dresses can look disproportionate on me (makes me feel like I'm wearing little girl clothes). Maybe the yellow top will fit and I can wear it with the camo pants.

The navy dress doesn't look too short to me at all - but i know what you mean about feeling uncomfortable in them. Here is where Angie would suggest a cropped jean underneath.

Lisap- er no thanks to crop jeans, although I'm sure someone could make that work. The whole point when it's over 100* is to have something light and flowy. That's actually why I like the other dress too - it feels like it will be cool. I think both these dresses look slightly longer in the pics than IRL. the navy dress has an interesting neckline too.

Try a size up on the camo pants.

You look equally good in BOTH Free People blouses. Choose the colour that makes you happier.

Angie - I will see if Anthro has a size up on the pants. The blue color definitely makes me happier than the other color.

Ledonna - I think the top will be iffy, but I do like yellow, and I haven't worn that color in quite a while. It looks so cheery. Will let you know.

Smittie - thanks. Think we do agree. I am on the lookout for casual pants or shorts for this summer. Per Angie, I'm going to try up a size in the camo. I do have some options for accessories, so would enjoy camo for a switch.

My favorites are the FP blouses, I have a slight preference for the blue background but I'm not a fan of black, and next the pinkish red dress. Maybe it's a coral color? The length is great for you and I like the neckline. That sort of neckline gives me trouble so if you can wear it you are fortunate. One side along the slash opening always flaps open and makes me feel overly exposed, especially if it is cut deeply, sometimes both sides do and they create a deep V neckline. I like the shape of the navy dress and think it will look great if you add the right shoes and some other accessory, even something simple like a handbag. I think it would set off the pattern nicely.

My favourites are the FP tunics. They look gorgeous on you. I really like the Anthropologie Camo pants. I tried them on but they didn't fit me. If they work for you then get them. They are a nice light material and very versatile.

I love the navy top - sort of a palm leaf print? I love that banded sleeve, it's the structure of it, I think, which is missing from so many summer clothes. (Can you post a Find for that top, or a link?)

Both dresses, for sure. The pinky one looks like it will be fantastic and easy on a really hot day.

Those are my favorites, but you have a lot to work with here!!

Staysfit - I totally get what you mean about the neckline, but it is fairly narrow, and didn't seem to flop open at all. I will walk again in it to be sure.

SF - the tunics are a standout. I am going to try the Anthro pants at home for a bit to make sure they don't grow. They are a bit snug, so maybe sizing up will be best for comfort if they don't stretch much with wear. I think they didn't have the other size in store, so I may want to order it online.

3-11 are all keeper to me, including the coral dress! It is a strong summer color beyond your blue is another great for blondes, why not! Love it has real short sleeves (very rare) and the bordure detailing! But pants in 10 need another top:-).

Lyn567 - I wasn't really putting the pieces together in 10, just showing what I'd gotten. I have seen elsewhere many people wearing the Madewell tees. I think they would be very fragile to holes, as it feels quite thin. I'm baffled why there are so few short sleeve dresses. Probably because it makes them harder to fit.

Love the dresses. Very much like the idea of the pants in a larger size. Somehow it just seems that style should be a little loose. And yes, you definitely chose well with the blue Free People tunic - it's like it was designed just for you.

I concur about the Madewell tee - I and my daughters have lost so very many to holes, that I will not buy them anymore. Made well will replace (or give a store credit) if you take it into a store with the hole, but that's really not worth the trouble if the new one gets a hole in it within a few weeks, now is it?

I have had my eye on the navy Boden dress (just bookmarked for now as I am on shopping fast.) I am curious about a couple of things, if you wouldn't mind giving a mini-review. I really like the fit of that dress on you, which is a touch roomier than it is shown on the model. on the Boden website. Did you size up, or is that just the way it actually fits? Also, how thick/thin is the material? (I'm past the point of being comfortable in a dress that is the weight of a thin t-shirt.) Would you say that it is a least as thick as a study t-shirt (like a Hanes beefy-tee, if you are familiar with that)?

Ryce - regarding the Boden dresses, I suggest a couple things. I did their size estimate, and it suggested a size smaller than I ended up getting. I took a look at several dress measurements, and went with the larger size, which is where my measurements end up. I definitely couldn't have gone smaller, especially in the navy.

Both dresses are a thick cotton, with the blue being thicker. I would say it is close to a beefy t thickness. I also don't like the super thin fabrics, or rather, they don't like me. The blue dress fits pretty straight up and down, and the pinkish one is a little more relaxed, along the lines of a slight a line. The blue is a little shorter too, not sure your height, but Boden offers height options.

Thanks so much, delurked! I hope it is still available when I am ready to purchase. I'm 5'2", so assuming their measurements are accurate the regular length ought to be at the top of the knee for me.
Both are lovely, and if a good-for-me color was available I would be interested in the other one, because it looks so great on you! I think Boden and Free People should hire you as a model!
