Boat shoes?

So, boat shoes are back. I'm not sure about this; they remind me of my dad on weekends. Is there a way to wear them that looks intentional, and not just like you've had them since the 80s?

I saw a lady in the airport wearing with skinny jeans, and a blazer...and a cool leather belt. I haven't been able to get the look out of my head, it was simple and gorgeous. So I am looking for my perfect boat shoe....have't found it yet.

Boat shoes in metallics and other fun fabrications can be more deliberate, not the standard cognac worn pairs from the 80's.

I'm not sure about this trend either, but hey, as Jjsloane says, in fun fabrications and worn with a bit of edge they could look great. I look forward to seeing them on other people!

I love mine! I have a pair in classic dark brown and think they look fun and retro preppy with the right outfits. I like them with shorts and skirts best, though I will wear them with skinny jeans too. I frequently add a blazer or something to keep them from looking too casual. Anything with a nautical twist (stripe shirt, navy blazer, etc) is an easy way to go for styling.

I really like the idea of a metallic too and you might find them even easier to style if you're worried about the "suburban dad" look

I went big into boat shoes last summer. Love them as a sandal alternative, because I don't like showing my toes, and I often feel sandals are too girlie for me. Here's how I wore them... hopefully it looks intentional...

I love mine! They are pewter, which looks fresh and new to me. They have been surprisingly versatile! (My fave, of course, was on an actual boat!!)

Cute, Rae and Mary! I like the idea of them with summer casual, but aren't they hot? I would tend to opt for sandals on days like those.

I've seen a couple color block pairs which I like, but I'm not sure how versatile they'd be.

I have a pair of gold metallic ones that I think are fun in the spring and fall (it's too hot here for closed toe shoes in the summer). I've attached some pics also.

I agree, colors and metallics. Also, the dainty, low-vamp versions are so cool IMO. I was at the French take-out place once where I saw this super cute girl in black, dainty boat shoes. She may have also been wearing a stripey boat shirt and a trench. *Si française!*

I am eyeing these in navy, but what do they mean by "pull up upper"? Was hoping for slip on shoes. Does pull up mean you slip in your toes and then have to reach down and adjust the heel up to get the shoe on? Or what?

Any thoughts on the shoes in general? I like the little wedge heel but maybe part of the look of boat shoes is the flatness... But I thought that about converse hi ness and now I WANT SOME SO BAD. These are a at good (Canadian) price for actual leather, assuming decent quality.

I used to have a poison eye for them as preppy has never been part of my style. But I got a pair of pewter ones this year and I think they are fun. The Sperry's weren't super comfortable for me; I think it was the grommets rubbing on top of my foot. I got a pair from Bass. They are super light weight and very comfortable.

I used to have a poison eye as well but last year I purchased the sperry pewter ones - waving to MarkyK twin. I love them and wear them all the time. In fact I wore them out last night to a festival. I like to have my toes covered in crowds in case I get stepped on - which I did!
