Blue Velvet Jumpsuit Help!

Hi All!

I bought this adorable sapphire blue velvet jumpsuit from Anthroplogie on sale this week. I want to wear to a cocktail birthday party. There will be very fashionable people in attendance and I want to look bomb!

I want to wear my hair up in a bun, with big statement earrings and a bold clutch with matching pointy heels. I'm thinking gold or fuchsia for the accessories.

If anyone can help with me some earring ideas or clutch/shoe combos I would be eternally grateful. I have nothing but the jumpsuit and I have until the first week of February.

I love the idea of fuschia heels and/or bag. That is a lovely jumpsuit and the color will go with so many options. Metallic might be more versatile for other outfits if that is a consideration. Something shiny or with a different texture than the velvet would be great. I’d keep any necklace simple like the one the anthro model Is wearing to not compete with statement earrings.

Any fit/style considerations. Heel height, shoe width? Lacy, sleek?

And you won’t be able to post photos as anew member until you contribute a few more post or comments on others. I think 3?

YES, that link is great, Alexis.

I second Karen's suggestion for metallic shoes. Throw in any colour or patterned clutch and don't mix the metals of the jewellery with the shoes. That way you'll create a complement that pulls the outfit together.

Thanks Karen and Angie! You ladies are giving me life right now. All the local people I have asked are just very boring (black) accessories and I want to be fun and wild.

I bought some standard gold and fuchsia stiletto pumps and one pair of gold d'orsay pumps. I'll see what works best. I really want a bold clutch but am having trouble finding something that speaks to me. If anyone comes across statement earrings or a clutch they love please please let me know.

Love the d’orsay heels! I’m not sure about suede and velvet together, they seem too similar in texture and yet different levels of dressiness, but that could just be me. While a matchy clutch and shoe combo is classic, I think a totally different colour like patent pink, or maybe even an animal pattern, would be more current and perhaps ‘effortless’ - as in, ‘oh I just had these hanging around and threw them together because I’m fab like that’ rather than ‘I went shopping for this occasion’.

I think Jules makes a good point about the classic match of purse & shoes vs the "oh, I just happen to be fab" look. Check out Bijou's current post for some examples. Angie also does this a lot, but she's not really posting pix of herself any more.

The last thing you want is painful shoes--smile is your best accessory, never fully dressed without one, etc, and what if you want to dance?

You should probably order up a storm and have a massive shoe try-on, either at home or, if you're not sure you'd actually return the rejects, you could order someplace that has in-store pickup (Nordstroms does, but so do a lot of other places), try them on immediately, in the store, and return the ones you don't want before you walk out the door. I've done this, and it was no problem. The person at the returns desk didn't even blink.

Keep us updated as you pull things together. It'd be great to see a pic of you in the jumpsuit once you can post pictures.
