blow dry bar tips?

I just booked an appointment for a "blow dry bar" in advance of my writers' conference next week. I've never been to such a place - any clue about how much you should tip, the same as a haircut, 10-15% of cost? Or any other things to know about the logistics or what to ask for? I'm not aiming for a special occasion look, just more pulled together than I can manage by myself.

Never heard of a blow dry bar. Is your conference in another city or can you go to your regular stylist for a wash and blow dry?

There is one by my house. I am scared to look into the window, but when I peek, everyone has HUGE FANCY PANTS hair.

One of the gals at the office just went to a blow dry bar last weekend. She loved it! She ordered her look of the "menu" and was very satisfied. Lasted through Monday, then she washed Tuesday morning, and that's after she got it done Saturday morning. She tipped a bit light b/c she didn't have much cash, and they wouldn't allow her to put the tip on her credit card.

This is cool. I had to google it 'cause I had never heard of them. When I was in beauty school we called the ladies that came in for weekly roller sets the "bread and butter" of the business. Like fashion I guess everything makes a come back of sorts.

Oh this is brilliant. I would gladly pay the $40.00. I need to find a location.

I am a generous tipper, because I used to live on tips back in the day. I would not leave less than $10.00 for sure.

I usually leave my stylist a 20% tip.

But then I have beastly hair. Snarls just looking at it, and it is super fine but I have tons of it. Soaks up water like a sponge.

Thanks all. Yeah, this is a new idea for me too, and definitely more high maintenance than I usually am. I will remember to bring cash for a tip - the salon where I get my eyebrows done also only takes cash for tips, it's a little annoying. I hadn't thought to see if where I usually get my haircut does blowouts too - I didn't want to pay the cost of a full haircut or anything.

My grandma used to get her hair washed and set at the "beauty salon," I'd forgotten about that. Everything old is new again... I'll keep y'all posted as to how it goes.
