Blouse update: need opinions - YouLookFab Forum

Okay, so a few days ago you may remember that I was obsessed with the fact that this blouse http://www.bluefly.com/Nanette.....detail.fly was not available in a smaller size. Even though it is more than I would spend, naturally it has become all the more perfect and desirable because I. Can't. Have. It. You know how that goes.

Anyway, I am still searching for something with a soft, droopy ruffle down the front. Inge posted an amazing list of links and everything was lovely (thank you, Inge!) -- I just didn't find The One.

I found this one, but I have some questions for you all:

First, does the lace make this one just too... too-too? I think the sleeveless version can get away with being so girly, but just barely. (There is a long-sleeved version on the same site that is pushed over the top, for me, by having lace AND ruffles AND frilly cuffs.)

Second, I have never bought anything from this site and am wondering if anyone has experience with their stuff? This blouse is rather inexpensive, and while I completely appreciate inexpensive, I don't like want it to look cheap.

Third, is the "nude" color too drab? I wanted ivory, but in the neutral color family they only have nude and stark white.

I don't think the lace blouse is as versatile as the original NL blouse so you might only get limited use out it but otherwise it is cute!

I think that all depends on how you wear it. For layering with something structured over it, I think that it might be fine. On its own the material might look too frilly and cheesy. It is hard to say what the quality is but for that price it will be hit or miss. I like the idea of it with a leather jacket or a cardigan. I do admit the first one is lush and could be worn any way. I like the nude color, it might actually make the top look richer.

GG -- you are describing exactly how I was planning to wear this: under something else.

In fact, the only reason I got interested in anything with a ruffle was because I got a biker jacket and wanted some contrast to soften it up (yes, that is totally Angie's influence). <VBG>

I have bought things from Newport News. The quality is on the cheap side (you get what you pay for and all that), but you can luck out and find some gems. I think the blouse is very pretty--I love the texture the lace brings to the blouse, actually. I think it's definitely worth checking it out.

I'm also looking for the right ruffled front or neck top to wear with a biker jacket, so will be interested in opinions. One plus is that the fabric (nylon/spandex) means that those ruffles don't need ironing!

Go for the one in your size and priced correctly. If you love the feel & look of it on, then next time you'll be ready to spend more for it.

I think nude is supposed to be in this Spring, though it's one of those things - it really depends on your skin tone whether this particular nude will work. And, it's hard to say from monitor colors.

I don't think the lace is too-too - I'm with you, the sleeveless version is workable but the long sleeve version IS too-too. However, if you are looking for something soft and floaty and silky, like the NL blouse, I doubt this is it. Lace can be scratchy and stiff.

My opinion of this site is that the quality is ... you get what you pay for. So if it were me, that would give me pause.

However, the price is pretty sweet. I would be tempted to go ahead and give it a whirl. If the shade of nude worked, then I would experiment, see how much wear I got out of this look, and if it was a lot, then that would lead me to justify splurging on something like the NL blouse.

I do that a lot - if I'm not sure about a style, I'll first try it out in a less expensive version like H&M.

Last thought: this weekend at Bloomie's final sale, I saw this blouse (not sure if it was NL, but VERY similar), for a song. But in black.

I've purchased from Newport News before and been disappointed with the quality. Nanette Lepore, however, has never let me down. I know it's out of the price range, but I think you should hold out for the "10" - the color, cut, and material looks superior even in the photos.

Hey Ladies -- thank you for all the constructive input! I just wanted to add that although the Nanette Lepore blouse was more than I was hoping to spend, the real issue was that it was not available in anything close to my size (and is now no longer available in any size). Boo hoo.
