Blog post request: apples and belts :o)

I'm guessing Angie is way ahead of me, but I figured I'd ask anyway. After seeing people like debbiek and Marianna looking so gorgeous belted, I want to break some apple rules too! I know there are lots of us who would love some general guidelines that work for belting cute apple tummies in a flattering way.

I like this idea.

Although I still feel like I should NOT be wearing a belt... especially when I sit down. Not so pretty. Ugh. I don't have a waist and I feel like a belt draws attention to my Buddha belly. I'd love to be proven wrong (I guess I already HAVE been proven wrong, heh!)

Yes, I would love to see this too! I actually wore a belt last week and it was for more than 10 minutes! It was a wide, grey stretchy belt that I found at UO and I wore it over a sheath dress and I wore a denim jacket over it. I am finding that I kind of like the way a belt looks underneath a cardi or jacket but I am still not brave enough to wear one on its own. Mine did move around alot, especially when I sat down so I had to readjust it every time which seemed like a hassle. This is where properly positioned belt loops would actually perhaps help. Anyway, I figure since I have to pull up my jeans every time I stand up, how much trouble is it to have to pull my belt down, right?

I'll give the post a bash. I do feel that there is incredible apple belt phobia on YLF though (both on the forum and in the regular blog comments) - and that very little that I say will make a difference - unless I physically dress you.

I have to admit I don't think I would be as open to belts as I am now if I still had apple tendencies.

However....

I really do think you look wonderful in that shirt Marianna. Debbie too. If the belt is properly positioned and the top is structured, it seems like a winning combination for apples.

Shana, which belt was it that you found? Pics please! I would love to see how you made a wide belt work on you since we have similar proportions. Trying to find a 2" stretch belt has been an endless headache so it would be super if I could find a 3" one and just make it work. I know what you mean about shiftiness too. My shirt constantly needs to be tugged back down and the belt rides up on me. I don't know how to fix it!

Lovely idea for a blog post. I have any apple-y shape from the side more
than the front so I think in can successfully pull off a high waisted belt. They also look great layered under a cardi.

I must say, Angie - one of ur posts on apple body shapes actually suggests apples avoid belts! Perhaps updated body type blog posts are in order?

Maya, that's exactly right - enough structure, the right fabric of top, effective positioning and the belt itself are the variables that need to be considered in order for apples to wear belts with sass.

There are so many variable to doing it right that it seems a bit overwhelming. I know that dresses and tops that nip in high on my waist (right under my bust line) are generally flattering and allow everything to glide right over my tummy. That's what I would try to create with a belt.

Marianna, I know how you feel when you sit down in a belt. On my body, everything just squishes up and the belt just sits on top of my belly like a big beacon. This is why I avoid belts. I will say that you look wonderful in that belted shirt!

I'd be interested in reading about apples and belts too...for obvious reasons. I really struggle with the idea of belts, especially on tops. Dresses are ok as long as there's an empire seam. But are all apples equal? For example Marianna's recntly purchased belted top looks amazing on her, I don't know if it'd work at all on me though!

I feel pretty good in that belted shirt, but I attempted to belt a cascading cardigan with a skinny belt and I felt SO not proportional. The skinny belt got lost on my large frame, not cute. I also felt like the belt emphasized my side fat and really highlighted how big my waist is. Isn't a belt supposed to highlight a little waist? Maybe this is because the cardi was a thin flimsy material, but the belted shirt is more structured. I don't really know.

Boof, I have a massive muffin top when I sit down. My belly fat just smooshes together. I don't look my best while seated.
