Black Watch Black Watch Blazer Again but in Two Sizes: Which One?

Sorry for another post on this blazer, but I was out and about today and found it in the smaller size. Pics 1, 2, and 3 are size small, pics 4, 5, and 6 are size medium. Pic 7 is how they fitted it on the mannequin at JCP, definitely a larger fit - they put her in a size large and pinned up the back.

Interesting, before I looked at the pics I liked one size, then after looking at them I think I prefer the other. I'd love to hear what you wise women have to say!

Pics are overexposed on purpose. Which size is the keeper?

I prefer the shapely fit of the small. It's different than the mannequin, but it sounds like for it to fit like the mannequin you'd have to stand against a wall all day to hide the pinning at the back. Shifty merchandising.

Deffo the original (M). Better fit across the back and room to layer underneath. Such a nice jacket!

I prefer the medium because the small pulls a bit in both front and back when the jacket is buttoned. Even if you plan to wear it unbuttoned, I think the medium would be better should you want to wear thick layers underneath.

Also, if you are leaning toward the small, have you done the hug and steering wheel tests? Or maybe the lift up the arms toward the black/whiteboard test?

Emily, I think a lot of times when stores run out of a size (in this case they were out of the smalls and mediums) they will put the larger size on the mannequin and then pin up the back. I have noticed this because when I can't find my size on the rack, I check the mannequin and if she's wearing it, I take it off her! In this case, they called another store that had the size I wanted and I went over and got it - I was driving right past the other store anyway.

DonnaF, the small does pass the arms up test but barely - it fits ever-so-snuggly in the shoulders, as blazers sometimes do.

I think the M looks a tad longer in front, too.

I prefer the medium, too. The small looks like a good fit; I see the very, very slight pulling across the back with it buttoned, but I wouldn't consider that a deal-breaker. My preference is based on what I see as the "shrunken blazer" style of the small (shorter and more fitted), which doesn't seem as current a look to me. I think either size could work, though, depending on how you want to wear it (e.g., what you'd most want to layer under it, will it go with dresses or pants) and what look you're going for. I like the medium better. The fit across the back is better. Open I could not tell the difference between the two. Definitely keep the size that's most comfortable to wear. I'm going to be looking for this jacket at JCP now.

Medium! And especially if you plan to wear with pants.
Comparisons are helpful. The M doesn't look too big; the greater ease is trending; it'll layer & move well. Gives a bit more effortless look, and your legs always look long & lean and like they do well with the longer length.

I really like the way the medium fits across your shoulders better.

I like the medium too. You could wear anything under it while I think the small might limit your choice of blouse or sweater. It's a lovely jacket.

The small is back in the bag to be returned to the store (Glory, I got it at JCP), and the medium is all set to be worn this week! Now I just need some styling suggestions
