Black tulip dress - Keep or Return?

Pretty straightforward - should I keep it or return it? It's not for any particular occasion, just a comfortable summer dress. Thanks

The first pic is probably the most accurate, proportion wise. The others I hoped the brightness would show the dress detail a little better, but since they are shot at knee height the proportions are a bit off.

I like the shape and length but I'm not crazy about the big ruffle down the front.

Hmmm. I think I'm in agreement with Diana, but I can't really say how much of that is due to my somewhat poisoned eye for ruffles in general.

What kind of coverup for airconditioning would you pair with this (if any). If you are comfortable enough to wear this style, go for it. Can it be washed?

Guess I'm one of the few that never got over ruffled a few years back. They are still my friend I do think maybe the draping *with* the ruffles could be a bit much together.
Joy, I am happiest in Tahoe snow - FL heat is a personal hell I continue to put myself through lol! No need or worries about a cover up for me. And, yes, it is totally wash n dry jersey.

I suppose I am most concerned about the overall style and shape on me. Wearability/comfort is a non issue.

And Rae, the midi is on the way - there was a delay in shipping, so the seller refunded that for me (how nice).

I'm going to be the odd one out and say I love it on you. This is how I want to look in a dress, so maybe it's the opposite of poison eye - I can't be objective because I adore this silhouette. Not a ruffle fan, but you are, right?

I actually don't mind ruffles, I just don't like them when they are front and center like this (but I have a psychologically poisoned eye for certain types of center front seaming, especially when they involve ruching or ruffling, so... take it for what it's worth). I do like the dress otherwise.

Una, that's so funny. I am on the fence about it. And, yes, a ruffle never did me any wrong lol.
And now comes the true confession. It's $10. Shipping was $3.65. Sending it back will likely cost about $4. So I might spend $7 to not have a dress (depending on whether seller refunds their ship out to me or not) or spend $13.50 to have one.
I know, I know - we should only keep what we love and will wear despite the price . . . but still.

It is hard to justify the return Mo. For me, it wouldn't be worth the trouble but it all depends on one's budget. And, I think it's fine for a simple summer dress, esp. if you like the ruffle. It would be interesting to see how else you might style it. Several people said they liked the skirt so in fall a topper could certainly be added.

I like it for summer and you mention it is a nice jersey material and washable. I say keep and try it with some casual sandals.

I love the pleating on the side which makes for an interesting, dramatic silhouette. But I don't care for the ruffles which are at odds with the edgy-ness of the pleating at the side. This dress needs to pick what it wants to be: dramatic modern or feminine soft.

ETA -- ok the shopping math does change things. Maybe you could style it and make the confused aspect of it fun!

I am leaning towards keep, and play around with. I'm intrigued at the idea of playing down the ruffle and going with the more edgy draping. I've never been successful at the whole layer over a dress to make it look like a skirt thing.

As I scanned the comments, I wanted to chime in that the ruffles down the front don't bother me, but the ruffle across the top does. It looks a tad too ... fluttery. This dress would be awesome without any of those ruffles.

Then I saw you only spent $10??? I vote KEEP, and hatchet it. Have the top cut off and make it into a fabulous tulip skirt!!! You could dress that down or up! It could be totally funky cool and awesome!!!

... it's interesting some view this as a casual summer dress. I don't. I was envisioning this as something for a more formal, yet funky, occasion.

I do think CocoLion nails it: the dress can't decide what it wants to be. Chop it into two pieces. Definitely keep the skirt portion. Heck, for only $10, you could buy a plain cami, and have it sewn on to create a more streamlined top.
