Black satin bermuda shorts yay or nay?

Okay, I can't decide if I'm just kidding myself that I'd actually wear them and am just swayed by the idea of them more than the reality of putting them to use in my closet. Too trendy or too young or too outlandish to fit into an everyday casual wardrobe? Or fun and statement making? They are shiny and pretty form fitting. I am 40 if that matters . . .

Too contradictory - and I just posted acid wash jeans here! I think bermuda shorts are casual, and satin is dressy. Picture? Age is not an issue for me, as you know!

ah, they are in a store I visited yesterday. I got too hungry and had to leave all my purchases behind before I crashed. That may have been a saving grace or not lol. I will likely be back tomorrow and will snap a pic - part of me thinks I like the idea more than the actuality but who knows? I might surprise myself

I went ahead and got one size larger - tight satin is NOT a good look! But that means they are longer now, too. Hem them or not? Wear with heels or flats, or both? Keep or return? Any styling ideas or suggestions would be welcome, too. I was trying on tanks for summer ideas but maybe they could be worn for spring with some sleeved tops, as well . . . would you tuck or not, due to the hardware on the pockets? Thanks for any ideas or suggestions!

Hmm, this length and style looks more like capris to me? They are very cute and fit your style - but I have no ideas on how to style them, sadly.

Darn it, Una! lol I need helllpp!! yeah, they are more 'clam digger' length I guess? The too tight ones hit me right at the kneecap but these are longer. Not sure what to do with this length, sigh.

You definitely have the frame to pull of satin bottoms. I'm no help in terms of length....can you perhaps pin one leg up a bit shorter, and take a pic so we can compare?
I kinda like the first outfit, its casual but not in a bad way. I'm not a big fan of the rad satin with the black satin on the second picture....I picture these with some sort of non-shiny, looser, flowy top..

I like them! I think I'd pair them with a top that is made from a radically different fabric from the satin bottoms - form fitting and tucked! Mix your textures and this would be very cool!

So glad you posted pictures! I'm in the same boat--I like the idea of them, but not sure if they'd work for me.

I like these on you a LOT, and think you can totally pull them off. But, I'm wondering about the fit in the, ahem, crotch area. Are those drag lines? If so, would they bother you? I'm also not a huge fan of the satin on satin look. Please take with a grain of salt, as I think they look great on you.

I second Srujana's idea for a flowy pairing--maybe one of the new summery sheer things? I just bought one and can't remember where (will try to update after I check my closet)! I'm sure there's a way to also wear them with something more fitted, so hopefully someone has suggestions for that.

Thanks everyone for the styling suggestions! I guess I need to be on the lookout for a flowy light summer top. I agree the satin with satin is overkill. The idea of contrasting fabric makes lots of sense. Maybe a funky graphic tee could work as well??
Melissa, good eye! I sized up in these so perhaps they are hanging just a tad in the crotch area. I have to admit I like that problem better than the opposite problem of too short in the crotch/rise! lol I will pay attention to where the waist/crotch sits next time I try them on.
Did anyone have thoughts either way about flats vs. heels?

They are gorgeous. You could dress them up or down...very versatile style. Could wear with slingbacks and a silky top as someone suggested or have it with flats (ethnic typ sandals) and more casual tops.

I could see them with a lightweight, open-knit, cropped "sweater" over a cami. Maybe cream cami, taupe sweater? And black, open-toed, sling-backed wedges to keep the eye moving down the leg.

These are SO MUCH BETTER than what I was imagining. I hate bermuda shorts but these are cute. Dressy capris at a non-frumpy length. I'd just wear them the same way you wear skinnies.

Thanks for the ideas guys! And Maya, along the lines of 'wear them as you would skinnies', I got to thinking I should just treat them as black capris/shorts and not specifically satin blah blah blah. I tend to corner myself sometimes with materials. I did that at first with my sequin tank - mentally limiting how I can wear them. So that will be more freeing to me when thinking how to style them. Thanks!
