Hi All

The weather here has turned. A freesing mist off the sea enveloped our town yesterday and although the sun is shining today it really is cold. I dressed for the day and then had to change into something warmer. So I have closed my Autumn capsule and no surprise, dark neutrals ruled, especially black. My darkwash BF jeans and my black cargo pants were the most worn bottoms. My black jersey cotton turtleneck and by black knit cotton turtleneck were my most worn tops. My new sleeveless olive puffer vest was hands down my most worn topper. What a great addition! None of the outfits were entirely black because of the olive vest, a metallic olive handbag and cream sneakers, which provided the contrast I love. At the end of every season my numbers tell me I wear neutrals mostly and more of the darker ones. I am no longer getting surprised.

Anyone else love black as much as I seem to?

I find I wear black a lot too! It is our national colour-All Blacks, Tall Blacks, Black Ferns just to name 3 national sporting teams, but also so easy to wear and readily available. I think the forum won’t think I wear it that much as I probably don’t photograph the outfits so much as bright ones. The tracking lists show I do. I just got back from Vietnam yesterday and two beautiful sunny days yesterday and today. I’m sitting here in a black t-shirt and black/white snakeskin pants right now before bed.
I do like contrast, yes, especially black and white. Your olive puffer sounds great!

Your all-black outfits with olive and cream touches sound interesting.
I stopped wearing black a few years ago (well, I have only a few pieces) - it is my reaction to the dark, gloomy Autumn/Winter weather of Northern Italy and to the fact that most people here wear a lot of black. Perhaps, living by the sea, you have brighter skies and more light?

I'm not surprised that your olive puffer vest and handbag worked out so well with the black, they seem like a natural fit together. What great additions to enjoy.

I also love darker neutrals at this time of year. I tried going with less black in my wardrobe for a short period when it seemed many YLFs were moving to navy or brown as their dark neutral, but I find I really like the grounding effect of black in my wardrobe and it generally works well with my colouring. I doubt I'll ever do a total all black outfit, just too severe on me, but mixing in some other neutrals like white, grey, cream, olive, or even chambray with black creates lots harmonious combinations for me to enjoy.

Team black here too! Usually paired with other neutrals, but I did wear all black on Saturday (as I tend to do every Nov 1) with a mix of textures, and was happy with it.

JENNI your snake print pants and black tee sound just up my alley. Black is so easy to wear. High five to contrast.

SISI it does get gloomy here in deep winter but we do still get quite a few sunny breaks. Everyone here wears winter black too. I do not. I don't have a black puffer, hat or gloves. Which is what people see of my outfit mostly. I do love black knits and jeans though. Lipstick helps too and I know you agree.

DEE I too got inspired from YLF to change my neutral to navy. I do both now. I cannot and don't want to give up on black. It suits me. I love a blue dark wash denim and black. I don't like black for summer days though. I think that is because of where I live. In a summer resort town it feels too heavy, and also after the long winter.

Yes, me!
Black is my default color. I’m one who always asks “Does it come in black?” I wear lots of navy but black is my #1. I used to avoid black for summers but added a few pieces and love the sharpness of it sometimes.

I think I only wore black on Halloween. Today I’m wearing dark blue. Other days, I might wear grey. But I completely agree with Angie: wear the colors you like!

I’m on team my dark neutrals year round. I have summer weight pieces in black, grey, brown and olive green. I don’t like navy, light blue, twee prints, maritime stripes, etc. And after years of giving in and buying pieces like that and not enjoying getting dressed in the summer, I’m holding out for things I genuinely like.

I get it Star - and it is good to be realistic what you actually wear or want to wear. No point adding lots of aspirational purples or creams if you actually prefer or need black.

I like black and pewters, olives, ivory etc can be good to provide that contrast and lift.

Right now I am wearing a lot of black but not usually next to my face, which I have to be in a certain mood to do. Black and white is always a go to for me.

jAIME. Black and white is a favourite of mine too. Like wise STELLA I love black and olive together as well as black and camel. CARLA it makes total sense to me that you have one of everything in black. I think I have quite a few of everything in black!

Lise--I also love black, and a black turtleneck makes me feel like I can conquer the world. Doing a huge wardrobe addition of many clothes at the beginning of fall, I was excited to add a variety of neutrals, especially gray, but ended up with more black. Probably mostly because it is easy to come by.

If you are putting away fall clothes for winter, it must be cold indeed where you live. My fall clothes will be totally fine for winter--sometimes we even have a shorts day!

Haha PIROUETTE. I recall you only wear black, white and denim, so was surprised to see your gorgeous brown jacket you posted recently. I too have a suede Moto which barely gets any wear because of the weather. Mine is not black either but a guava colour. Seriously I don't know how else to describe it.

CAROL yes I too get that feeling in a black turtleneck. It is definitely an essential in my wardrobe. Yes four distinct 'dressing' seasons here of which winter is the longest.
