Black or nude Okalas?

Thanks to Trix posting about Okalas on sale at Lord and Taylor (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ord-taylor ), I got both black and nude shoes to try on. I don't own any high heels and generally tend not to wear them but I figured it would be nice to have one dressier pair of shoes for special occasions. These would be "all purpose" shoes that I would like to go with various dresses/skirts so I am trying to decide what would be the more universal color to keep, if any.

What do you think? These dresses are a K/R also (I have another thread on those) so I would not necessarily be wearing the shoes with these particular dresses.

Well, black does seem to go with everything, but you can always find a nice black pair of shoes. I'd probably keep the nude ones. wish I had some myself.

I do not think you can go wrong with either pair. Since you have dark hair I have a tiny preference for the black ones, for bookending.

Well, I am usually not able to identify a "universal" dress shoe but have to target a dress or capsule of dresses, such as winter/summer or maybe, "wedding-church type" vs. cocktail. So it can be good to be having the items all at once to consider, and decide which are your favorite "looks". Perhaps swap them out in the photos, and try with the other dresses. Does one just zing you? Are you tending toward more deep colors overall or did you plan to have a lighter-colored summer dress?

The nude would be good for spring though fall, and go with a lot of things, and is more of a HEWI for me-- it does work with prints. So it to me would be very good for Wear Now into summer for a lighter look. But hey, the black is very nice bookending with your hair, and you wear the deep-toned colors so well. Are they comfortable? I think you are lucky in that both could work, and you may just have to pick!

I think there's a place for both, honestly, but if I had to pick one, I would go for black based on what I know of your wardrobe (darker colors, right?) and the fact that you have dark hair. Plus I think the black is more year round.

I think both are great and will be very useful.
If you like them and they are comfortable maybe you can keep both.

Yay, glad you were able to get them on sale! I'm not very good at giving clothing opinions, but I pretty much agree with everyone above: I like the black shoes with the darker-colored dresses that you're wearing (and like the bookending effect), but agree that the nude would be better for light-colored dresses. I got the nude ones because I needed something to wear with light-colored summer bottoms/dresses and because I don't have anything similar (I have plenty of dressy black shoes). I would be challenged wearing the black ones in winter in my cold climate because I'm always wearing tights in winter and don't know if it's OK to wear them over tights.

But either way, I agree that you can't go wrong -- they both look great on you. Hope you enjoy them!

P.S. Ironically, I don't know if I'll keep them -- still figuring out if the fit works. But if I decide not to keep them, I'll be looking for another pair in the same color.

I like the black ones with the b & w dress and the nude shoes with the colorful dress. I'd keep both if you can. If you can't, which will you get more wear with considering the other items in your wardrobe?

Black...if you are only going to get 1 pair. Probably most times, I would say the nude, but with your dark hair, the black just stand out so much more as the right wY to go. BTW, you have great legs, and this type of shoe with the wider ankle strap is so very attractive.

I came into this thread fully expecting to like the nude ones better because they would go with everything, etc. However, I very much prefer the black on you. For some reason contrary to much popular advice, I think the black makes your legs look more slender (if that matters) and the contrast is more appealing. It bookends your hair and could be worn with any dress with any darker colours in it. In other words, the only thing I would not pair the black shoes with would be something uniformly pink or beige or coral. If it had a design with any dark colours in it, though, the black would work. So if you only keep one, I like the black better for you.

They are both really pretty. I think the black are a slam dunk with your hair, and really highlight your ankles and legs!

It's interesting, I also expected to prefer the nude shoes but when I put the black shoes on, I was pleasantly surprised. I believe that all of my summer dresses have at least some black in them (even the one coral dress I have is actually coral with black pattern!). So I think I will be keeping the black shoes, although I will consider whether it is worthwhile to keep both.

And yes, unfrumped, they are quite comfortable - at least as comfortable as heels can be for someone who is not used to wearing them!

This is a tough one - they both look great and will work with different items of clothing. But if choosing one, I'd go with the black as they bookend your hair.

May I ask how you find the comfort of these Makrame? I'm thinking of pouncing on the Okala bandwagon myself but I have baby bunions and am wondering if they will work for the front portion of my foot.

Definitely the black. They work with your hair colour and the very cool ankle strap of the shoe is much more noticeable. I feel that nude pumps look better sans ankle strap. If you want a shoe that blends right into your foot, ankle straps seem to defeat the purpose!

Shannon, I only saw your question now - these shoes are pretty comfortable. I have somewhat fussy feet, and the Okalas don't seem to bother them (I did size up half a size).

I am going against the grain here to say nude because of the open style (more suited to Spring/Summer) and the total versatility of a nude shoe. They both look great.

I vote for the black if I were to get a nude it I would try to match it as closely as possible to my skin tone.
